Mobile Contract
Asking for a good friend of mine, she had an orange contract , she sold the phone and contract to someone who enquired after she offered it up on a buy and sell site,
She was told by the 'buyer' that she would confirm the change over and that she would take over the bill, so my friend should have been left with no concern and could walk away free of the phone and contract
not long after about 3 weeks, she received a bill of around £600 which the so called new owner had run up before cancelling the contract, my friend has been left with this debt, due to the 'buyer' not confirming she had control of the contract,
does my friend have any stand with this, apparently orange told her,
thank you in advance

to me this stinks, she is a young lass, hoping to move into her own home soon, and doesn't need this dragging over her, short of me getting all the details and kicking up one hellah stink is there anything we can do?far as they are concerned because she didnt confirm it (like she told me she had) it was still in my name therefore its my responsibility
thank you in advance

I'm no expert, but your friend sounds very naive and may have learnt an expensive lesson.
Why hand over the phone, until confirmed with the network that the phone and contract had been changed to new owner?
Best think is to report it to police.0 -
I doubt the police would be interested. This friend gave the phone to someone without making sure it was transferred to the 'new' owner. (which incidentally is very difficult to do and impossible on most networks).0

Sorry, but I've got to agreem your friend sounds extremely naive and from what I know she doesn't have a leg to stand on. Most network operators wont even allow you to change the owner on the account as the credit check etc. has been done on the original owner and they've entered into the contract.
Your friend has entered into a contract where she's liable for all costs incurred and any termination fees, she could try the small claims court against the buyer (providing she has something in writing), but I doubt the police or the network would be interested, selling on contracts certainly isn't standard practice.0
