Car insurance auto renewed - Can I cancel this????

Insurance expired yesterday, and I was signing up for a new company today, but just realised the letter states they will renew automatically.

What can I do? I didn't want them to renew cause they have quoted £20 more than a different company.

Is it too late to cancel without a charge?

Thanks

The only way to find out is to contact the company...I insured my motorbike with the same company I had my car with, when I sold the bike and contacted them they said there was a £50 for cancellation...ludicrous I now longer even own the vehicle, any way they 'waived' the fee as I was with them for my car insurance...Hmmmmm

It says on the renewel quote

if you cancel your policy within 14days of recieving your policy documents you will have to pay for time on cover, unless you have made a total loss claim, in which case all outstanding payments will become due and no refund will be given.

What does the last part mean? total loos claim?

So I should be ok, and worse case would be to pay for todays and tomorrows insurance?

Total loss claim means that if you were be insured fully comprehensive with the company and your car was a write off then any payment due to you as a result of the write off would be reduced by the outstanding balance due on your years insurance.

Car is worth 2000 pounds. Outstanding due payments for year of 640 pounds, sum paid in respect of loss would be 1360 pounds.
