siren, why don't you speak to the teacher again? Say that you've been worried about what she said, that you're trying to make an appointment to have it checked out, but that can she clarify what she meant and what she was basing it on?

That's a good idea donna and wording it along the lines you have suggested will mean the teacher knows the OP is taking her comments on board and if she thinks it will go further (i.e. to the GP) then the teacher may be more careful with what she says. Less like to get random rubbish from her perhaps. ;)

I do have 4 year old twin boys with a thyroid problem. I'm not giving any medical advice - just my personal experiences. They didn't have it at birth - their heel !!!!! test thing was fine. However, it was spotted on a regular visit to the gp just by the way one of my boys had a largish tongue that stuck out. My boys are not overweight or have any of the usual symptons of thyroid problems (their thyroids are underactive). It is very unusual in boys especially young ones but it is possible and a simple blood that everything is fine with your son? It is definitely worth the peace of mind.

Just to say that they test you refer to is for phenylketonuria and NOT for thyroid. It is done for all babies to detect kidney abnormalities. HTH
