N8 or iphone??
hi,
I currently have a nokia 5800 with o2 and am out of contract. I've been with them online since the old genie days and like many others have previously had great retention offers.
I'm having a dilemma about which phone to upgrade to. Lots of my friends have iphones and there seems to be so much to like about them, but the lil old qwerty keyboard for texting REALLY puts me off, and I'm used to nokia predictive text, as I'm a big texter :embarasse
I have had a look at the N8 and the alpha numeric keypad is much more appealing to text with, and is supposed to have a fab camera.
Given that whichever phone I go for, my monthly costs are going up and contract lengths are getting longer, I'm a bit stuck which to go for!
I've come to terms with the fact that neither will be as user friendly for me as my current phone (properly touch sensitive so I can happily text one handed with my long nails :rotfl: - my old prada used to be a pain to text with)
Sooo, will the iphone drive me mad or will i get used to texting on it?
or if i go for the n8 will i be disappointed at the lack of apps etc???

You will get used to texting on a qwerty keyboard on a phone (regardless of what phone you choose) very quickly0

Go for the iPhone, I deal with online returns on o2 and I've heard alot of bad things about the N80

really sporedude?? ohh, that doesnt sound good!
i have a mac notebook and love my ipods so that side of the iphone does appeal
robt- do you think so???even if i said i can text one handed without even looking at the phone  ohh thats a shameful confession :rotfl: it feels sooo unnatural to have to use the pad of my thumb
and spend ages looking for the letter i want. the response speed seemed quite slow too- when i tried to spell hello, i had to wait for the first l to register before pressing again
checked with a couple of pals with long nails and they said it drove them mad for ages but eventually got used to it, though they do send gibberish msgs when they are tired/rushed/tipsy :rotfl:
i also had a look at the desire & desire HD- the HD is an absolute non starter for me- its HUGE!!! v un handbag friendly
the desire felt too heavy and the pull out keyboard put me off, that was a qwerty keypad as well.0 -

The thing is, both the iPhone and the N8 have capacitive screens, so if you're used to typing by hitting your nails of the screen, it won't work on either of these phones. These phones require your finger to be in contact with the screen, hence the reason a stylus won't work, unlike the 5800.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

To be fair, you deal with one, someone working with returns deals with dozens.0 -

That's true, but on the other hand, someone dealing with returns is only going to see phones with faults on them! So neither is a true representation of how good it actually it. I admit, there are phones with faults, but then the iPhone has faults too. Remember the antenna problem?!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Excellent point. I recently spoke to the Orange technical department, and was told that the Nokia N8 (having only been out for a week or so on the network) had a very low return rate in comparison to other handsets (Desire was an example that was cited) and indeed previous N Series phones.
Ironically the woman I spoke to said that Orange had a special iPhone tech support department, solely to deal with the inflated number of faults with the various versions of the phone.
Again I have to stress that alot of problems stem from usability and function problems as opposed to hardware failures, no doubt coinciding with the growing number of apps and functions to be found on smartphones.0
