Severe Disablement Allowance

My brother until recently received this benefit.
It has been stopped as I recently secured him income from my fathers pension following his death. In informed DWP and they stopped all his income support without any explanation.
My brother has never worked or will he ever be able to do (cerebal palsy at birth). So this is not his pension.
My view was that Severe Disablement Allowance is not means tested and this is not my brothers pension it should not have been stopped.
Any advice?

Severe Disablement Allowance is not means tested. Are you sure that this is what he received? If it was the severe disability premium then this is an addition to income support and is affected by other income/capital.0

Yes I am sure it it was the Severe Diablement element of income support, I was not expecting it to stop0 -
My brother gets the higher elements of Disibility Living Allowance and the associated payments. He did get income support of which I though a portion was protected as it was Severe Disablement Allowance. When I secured an income from my fathers pension and informed DWP they stopped his income support but disiability living allowance has continued0

It seems right - if it was the severe disability premium of income support as you say, then any other income will affect this payment.
Severe Disablement Allowance is a completely seperate benefit is something which no longer can be claimed. It is an old benefit. I've just googled it - you had to claim before 2001.0 -
My brother recieved the allowance as he had been receiving it before 2001 and now they have stopped it.
His letter from job centre plus:
" We will pay you £98.95 a week from 3 Aril 2009 to 9 April 2009. This includes your income support and severe disablement allowance of £69.41"
He now recieves no payment from inclome support I was expecting it to reduce to £69.41.
I am totally confused!0 -
If thats the case and both benefits were combined it sounds as if Income Support have just stopped paying without informing the Incapacity Benefit section to restart payment of SDA.
Or they might have informed them but there has just not been enough time for the payments to be sorted out. The notification to you would be sent at the same time as the notification to the IB section.
Probably just need to ring and speak to the IB section just to confirm0 -
Ok will try phoning Incapicity Benefit
Thanks for the help
