Problems with HTC Desire HD

Looking for some advice with the HTC Desire HD. Just bought a new one, and battery life is atrocious....dies after 8 hours even after I tried switching most things off (which I actually bought the phone for). Am I doing something wrong? Is there some magic setting I've not found or is the/my battery really poor and I need…

The app killer app actually makes battery life worse! (I've removed it!)
I've set screen to go dim after 30 seconds and the screen goes off after 60 seconds.
I've got the galaxy live wallpaper running and I keep skype and tweetdeck running.

There's a couple of tweeks you can try to extend the battery life.
