Problems with HTC Desire HD

Looking for some advice with the HTC Desire HD.
Just bought a new one, and battery life is atrocious....dies after 8 hours even after I tried switching most things off (which I actually bought the phone for).
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some magic setting I've not found or is the/my battery really poor and I need to replace it?
Thanks in advance!

try and get the app killer app. HTC and other android phones have a massive habit of not closing the app properly. I had the same problem till i got this."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

Bluetooth absolutely decimates the battery life on my Nokia. If it has bluetooth, turn it off. Also using the software on the phone will kill it as well and it being new I suspect you've barely put it down0

Set the screen to automatically adjust the brightness and only enable wifi when you need to use it, that's all I've done. On an average day I probably send between 50 - 75 text messages, 45 minutes on calls and about an hour of 3G usage and that gets me right through the day.0

The more you use it the quicker the battery goes. A task killer is a must, and that big screen is gonna eat the battery as well I have an app to manually adjust its brightness.0

my battery seemed to pick up a bit after a couple weeks use..
i have switched live wallpaper, bluetooth, gps off
Have an app called quick settings on my home screen and can toggle a few settings on and off with it..
get spare parts also.. helps you monitor what uses what.
you need to check the partial awake also, think it was part of the google services(or calender) that kept the phone from sleeping..
also check your updates, some are set to check fairly often so can be changed..0 -
Smartphones do chew batteries so you need to turn off stuff you aren't using (wifi bluetooth and 3G mainly) If you don't then 8 hours is probably par for the course.
You can use the android power app for wifi + BT but from memory it doesn't switch 3G so you'll need to download one for that for sure plus there are better looking widgets for the others too.
I find it better using http://www.appbrain.com/ on a PC/laptop than the market directly on the phone.
It may be my imagination or just that I spent less time fiddling with the phone later but I'm sure mine lasted better after the first week or so.
It won't even do 8 hours if you get hooked on Angry Birds....0 -
I went from a Nokia phone 1 week per charge to a smartphone 5hrs operation time. Given a second battery to cope. Absolute waste of time I just need a phone. Just a phone. Please don't get sucked in, a phone should be a phone, nothing else it cannot cope away from a power source.0

if you want a phone for just a phone then there are better options than a smartphone...0 -
