Cost of deep cleaning a house?

Hi,
We have just got the keys to our first house. It was on the market for 3 years, because the lady bred dogs. The smell and carpets were disgusting. we've got rid of the carpets, at the suggestion of someone flea bombed the house and need to get the house deep cleaned. My skin is crawling! Does any body know how much the cost should be roughly for 3 bed deep clean? I thinks it's classed as an environmental clean.

We paid £260 this summer for similar for at the end of a tenancy. Largest cost was replacing the carpets though.

Sounds about right we've been quoted £300, I guessed it would be around this amount. I think it will be worth it, althought I don't know anyone who's ever had this done. Is it well worth the money spent?

Sorry, the question must be asked ! why did you buy it?
Also it may have been prudent to get the quotes of deep cleaning before taking it on.
If the dog wee has ingressed the wood underneath then you will have a real time fully getting rid of the smell.

    Hmm, let me see planemad...

Well, if I'm spending £125,000 which is well below current market value for house in that area, are you telling me it isn't worth £300 to get the house thoroughly deep cleaned, floorboards etc? I just wondered if anyone else had any experience. We're talking about cleaning here, not I've just bought a house that's falling down.
We weren't prepared to spend more on a house, so compromises had to be made. In terms of finding out prices, that couldn't be done as no company was willing to give a quote unless they'd seen the house. I had a ball park figure. I just wanted some back up.

That's why it's being deep cleaned.

For the dog piddle/floorboards scenario why not post over on the Old Style Board - their knowledge of various cleaning processes seems good.

For prices, can you not just hit Thomsons, the YP and get some quotes from local cleaning firms?

We thought that it was worth it - ours wasn't wee though it was just ingrained dirt from two years of not taking shoes off etc.

The deep clean made it nice and I didn't feel itchy once entering the property. Sorted out the mildew in bathroom as well. No longer smelt.

Like I say it needed new carpets but other than that was perfectly fine. Well worth getting a professional in. We tried to do it ourselves and they just have more 'industrial' strength appliances.

  • Nice to hear of somebody who isn't afraid to buy a house that isn't a show home. My current home was a bit of a mess but hard work and lots of bleach soon put things right.

The carpets are gone. Steam the wallpaper off, sand down and repaint the glossed woodwork and the doggy smell will be long gone.

It is so much less stressful buying a house that needs work as there are less people competing to buy it.

I moved out of a shared house recently and I had it properly clean by professionals.
4 hours worth of cleaning by 4 ppl. Excluding steam carpet clean it was ~200.

Not suggesting we are breeding dogs here but it's not bank breaking for a once off charge. :p

Thank you that's good to know. It does make you feel manky, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel!

Thank you, it was on the market for three years. It's certainly not the worst I've seen, and we're planning on doing all those things this week. It's really only cosmetic, it's structural things that scare me. We've got plenty of family helping, so it should be done in no time.
