Moneysaving depressing me

I think in a lot of ways you are reflecting the mood of the country. Things are really tight for everyone right now - well unless you earn like £2m salary or something anyway. But when things pick up you will be well placed to enjoy your money a bit more.
Sometimes you do have to have a small treat. I have just bought my first pair of nice shoes (rather than they will do because they are cheap) in like 5 years, and I enjoy them everytime I wear them!
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I know how you feel. Unfortunately, it's a side effect of being in debt and being on the road to getting out of it. Keep it up, you're doing great.
On the other side, actively money saving can give you loads of free treats; me and my fiance see at least one free film a week on average (rather than buy tickets to whatever film is showing) and tonight we went and saw an awesome firework display for free. No reason why you can't enjoy the same quality of life, just with an alternative twist to it!0 -
its ok to feel like that.. im exactly the same
keep going! Highest Debt £581,000 Nov 08 and now owe nothing! yes really! I have learnt my lesson the hard way!

The title of this thread says it all really 'Moneysaving depresses me'
I find it very noble that people in debt (myself included) are getting themselves out of the debt and are being frugal and finding what they can to throw at their debt to chip away at it, but to actually deny yourself any sort of luxury IS going to make you miserable. Everyone needs a bit of a pick me up during hard times, but if you're going to deny yourself of these little luxuries, you'll drive yourself nuts.
Sometimes I read some of the posts on this site and even though the site is really useful and has been to myself, I think that some people are taking the whole being frugal and money saving waaaaaay to far and sometimes appears to be an addiction in form and is also making people miserable due to denying themselves some form of fun due to the ' do I need it,' etc etc mantra.

Hi
Can't agree more. When i was in debt I used to get down by denying myself.
Now, although I am not in debt I have a few treats here and there I just try and make them MSE ones! I actually enjoy them more now because they are budgeted for.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Something I find helps me is having a budget. That way I scrimp and save so there's money in the budget that I can spend on stuff I'd normally feel guilty spending on. That said: I found it all a bit depressing when I was adjusting to it, but it gets better! And it's a much better feeling than waking up in the middle of the night and realizing you didn't have money under control!0

i'll agree with everyone else about having a budget for 'spends'.
i still don't always spend all of mine, so then i either save it up for something bigger/clothes/shoes etc or a meal out.
re. the shampoo/deodorants etc - this thing is to try and be organised and know what your 'best' price is. i also really hate it if i run out of something and have to pay full price. i always think ' oh i should have bought 20 rather than only 10 when it was last on offer';)0 -
I know what you mean, after finally getting rid of all debt other than monthly repayments for the car, doing a proper budget and sticking to it I found myself dithering about whether paying 60p to reserve a library book was a waste of money!:rotfl:
I coughed up 60p and reserved the library book -the old me would have just bought the book full price and 'paid' for it on one of my many almost maxed out credit cards.0 -

I've washed my hair with washing up liquid all this week because I didn't want to pay Boots prices and could only get to BM Bargains today. I find my skinflint-ness a bit wearing too (and it's self inflicted)
My boyfriend is a chemist and he tells me there's no difference basically between washing up liquid, body wash and shampoo. He would be very impressed.
My brother works for Clairol in shampoo so I've told him never to repeat that line to him!!!

Nuno,
Can you pamper yourself once a week. Say make a salt footscrub and give yourself a little pedicure and paint your toes (sorry I am assuming you are female here).
I have just remembered I have some chocolates from my boyfriend from Belgium
