Son got his light van just 6 weeks ago and paid for a 12 month warranty with VGS.

Just come home to a phone message that the exhaust has split? inside the engine compartment and will need to be replaced completely including the cat.

Would such an incident be covered by a warranty does anyone know please, before I try to contact son again?

I cant find policy wording on the net and dont have the booklet.

Thanks if anyone has any ideas.

    From their website...

Seems as though they do (at least) five different levels of cover.

If he has 1 star, 2 star, 3 star or 4 star, it appears unlikely he is covered.

If he has 5 star cover, maybe he is covered.
But to get that level of cover vehicle must've been under five years old and under 60,000 miles when the warranty was taken out.

Really need to look at the policy booklet to be sure though.

How old is the van? Some manufacturers cover emissions equipment for up to five years, although they don't shout about it.

Thanks guys, its 8 years old and he has the 4 star policy :( Looks like £400 from the bank of mum and dad then.
  • If he bought it from the trade then it's their responsibility to fix it. If a private purchase, tough luck. This is why I always say that warranties are a waste of money.
  • if it a diesel im sure you can remove the cat. i had a cavalier diesel and removed the cat and it still passed mot. all i did was knock the internals out of it.

Exhaust is wear and tear so i doubt the garage will cover it and i also doubt the warranty will either
  • If it was from a garage then they're legally obliged to fix it.

If the car was inherently faulty at point of sale they are actually obliged to fix it - six weeks isn't a long time.

Actually getting them to do it... well.
