It is not even MIDNIGHT and you have spent the past few hours moaning, your actual payment day is MONDAY so for gods sake shut up until 9am MONDAY morning. THEN PHONE THE DWP

And NO you can not claim bank charges from the DWP you have to sort out your finances yourself, they are already giving you the money to live comfortably, buy food, electricity etc etc so the least you can do is make sure you have the money to pay your own bills.

ANYWAY WHETHER THE MONEY GOES IN OR NOT, YOU ARE TAKING ONE HELL OF A CHANCE HAVING DIRECT DEBITS GOING OUT, ON THE DAY YOUR MONEY GOES IN.

in fairness t o the op it is very difficult to have dds set up when on benefits because the date you get paid is not always the same but the payday is benefits are paid every fortnight or four weekly much easier if were paid on the same date every calander month ie benefit paid the 28th of month dds out on 30th.

I am sorry but I dont accept that. OK I know that benefits are Paid every 28 days, but there is nothing stopping the OP making sure that the money is there, if DD are paid monthly and you are paid fortnightly or 4 weekly, it is common sense to leave some money in the bank, to plan your finances.

You have to cover yourself for every occassion, OK she hasent been paid on time this month, butshe is not actually due this money until 9AM on Monday morning, bank systems do go down, dla computors are notorious for having problems, if everyone in the country tried suing the DWP because they have incurred bank charges due to there own stupidity, what a fiasco.

Nonsense. Your regular monthly costs are £XYZ. You ensure £XYZ and some extra are in your account at all times. It is not complicated.

Some people on benefits live hand to mouth, and do not have the finances to ensure they keep some money in their account.

If money is not paid in by the due date and charges are incurred, then yes, you can put in a claim with the DSS, for them to pay the charges, if the money failed to go in due to their error.
