You only have to look at the HJT logs to see that some users will simply click on any download offered to them, especially if it's free and others believe that more than one installed AV or firewall must give them better protection!
Thats the main problem user error not what AV package they are using 9 times out of 10.

You may not like AVG but independent tests show that it does work well, better than many in fact and it worked for the OP.

Better AVG than nothing though it does not and never has come out that well on other independent tests like AV-Comparatives . Truth is you read a couple of years worth of PC mags and the AV tests rarely top rate the same product .
Has it got a consistent long term high not top rating and its the long term i buy into not one test . Plus and i find this is most important for an average non tech user can they manage the program keeping it updated etc do they even know it needs to be updated .
Its the basics of security the users fall down on .
Got to go my Kasperkys just thrown up three trojans in a download .

as you may have missed it , think you should download Malwarebytes from my link

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/

install and update and then do a full scan

then post the log file it produces

you may still have the infection but its not shown itself again

This weeks Click on News 24 can see in Iplayer is about this scam bot net infection, Also stop using IE and use firefox with script blocker, that way your virus fake popup never pops up to tempt you.

The whole point of an antivirus solution is to protect against user error. You can get infected without clicking on anything. AVG comes consistently below avast and avira in the independent tests I've seen.

AVG comes consistently below avast and avira in the independent tests I've seen.

AVG 0 avast 3 avira premium 3 based on Advanced +results last two years tests . I would define that in user terms as AVG poor as a total failure to get the Advanced + ( top award ) ever where avast at least manages 3 A= results .

Nod 32 full house with all 6 results Advanced + Kaspersky second with 5 Advanced +

Significant difference in long term results not just a one of test .
These days their is a whole lot more besides AV protection in many packages that should also be considered . Ant Phishing Safe Run etc but proactive defense now the more important tool as this is the one that protects against unknown viri .

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)
