Lowering working hours on return after mat leave

Hi everyone, I am going back to work end of Nov, and would like to lower my hours from 20 to 16.

I receive working tax cred, but will they make up for what I am losing?

Thanks

    Are you a lone parent?
  • If they are going to make up for it then it won't happen until next year as it's based on last years income.
  • call tax credits & advise them of your new hrs & pay & they should reassess your case. they did so for me when my salary went down when i reduced my hrs

if you are wanting to do 16hrs surely an extra 4hrs a week wont be too much of a sacrifice,

the tax credit system is going to chage, min hours for tax credits will be 24 hrs per week anything under you wont get tax credits

the 24hrs only applies to couples, and only affects WTC

based on current rules, working 16hrs you are still entitled to WTC. yes, the drop in income should mean your WTC increases, however it wont be on a like for like basis with the drop in income

As the OP hasn't said whether she's a lone parent or part of a couple, it's a bit difficult to advise her.

as the OP is only dropping to 16hrs, whether shes a lone parent or part of a couple, at present she will still be entitled to WTC

its only when the new rules come in, that her relationship status will have any bearing on her entitlement to WTC
