Presented vouchers as usual (a mixture of coupons from magazines/newspapers/product wrappers & internet prints) and was told that they would be accepted on this occassion (just as they always had been), but that Tesco were changing their policy to ONLY ACCEPT COUPONS that MATCHED PURCHASED ITEMS !!
I asked if this was just the local store policy or a Head Office directive. I was told it was from "Head Office ...because Tesco are losing too much money with coupon abuse." I didnt stop to find out what was meant by 'coupon abuse', as it was probably all those 'Sainsbury's Magazine £8.99 Off Wine' coupons that they accepted from me over the Christmas & New Year period.
This obviously needs confirming from Tesco Head Office (I feel an email coming on), but it looks like the good times my be ending.... soon.
None of the vouchers used were for items purchased and around half were self printed vouchers sourced from this forum (many thanks). It would appear that Tesco staff make it up as they go along !!
I just wish they would apply some consistency ---- or better still install the self-scan checkouts in my store.0 -
The last few times I have tried to use coupons for items that I had not bought they have always been handed back to me. I never make a fuss but when I read this page I wonder why this is. I find it frustrating as I shop there alot.0

You should take a firmer stance.
I have no problem arguing with the manager and stuff, at the end of the day, it REALLY doesn't matter to them at all - just argue enough and you'll win.0 -
NO! Don't argue-it's mostly counterproductive. In any case they are doing you the favour. Just accept philosophically you can't win 'em all and you'll probably win most of 'em.
Be polite and enjoy the ones you get. The bigger fuss you make the more likely you are to be remembered as a trouble maker.
Keep cool and smile- it'll get you a lot further in the long run.if i had known then what i know now0 -
Tesco stores must set their own policy. Tesco at Bursledon, Southampton don't take ANY vouchers unless you have bought the item. They had big signs up about it, since about September last year and have stuck to it!! Such a shame! Interesting to know that they seem to be the only ones though.0

So what if you are remembered as a trouble maker? They can't stop you shopping, it's more ideal when they have security guards following you around anyways - less chance of you getting pick pocketed and it's like you having your own bodyguard for free!
I will continue to be a thorn for them and using £5 worth of vouchers for a £6 shopping bill. I simply don't care and I always carry past receipts that worked out for it, just to prove, i.e. "I was here yesterday and it worked."0 -
my sister-in-law works at our local tesco,
she says they only take up to 1 3rd of you shopping total
you spend £30 they will take up to £10 in money off coupons0 -
My Tesco take up to 50 % in vouchers I think, but as I do a big shop there, I never have THAT many vouchers
And yes, back to the Ocean Spray theme - let's hope no-one else starts doing these sort of coupons...0 -
I guess I must be one of the lucky ones then to get 60%+ off the bill.
I thank Loafer for all the MumsPlusOne vouchers!0
