I suppose that's better than a jar of rotten eggs...:p:eek::rotfl:

I remember one year I received a present from my MIL. When I opened it I was initially quite chuffed as it was a pair of pretty pink slippers with embroidered stitching, sequins, and stones on them which she brought back from a trip to Egypt.

However, after examining them in great detail lol I realised they were not new and had actually been worn! The fabric inside the slippers were black where it should have been pink!(the part where you put your foot in) and they smelt cheesy.:(

This year I was given NINE pairs of socks! Lol! A pack of 3 princess ones from my best friend, bed socks in a foot care set from another friend, two packs of socks from my aunt (one 2 pairs of bed socks, the other 2 pairs of slipper socks) and a pair of Christmas socks. They're all nice & I'd wear them all, but I have sooooo many pairs of socks already & I don't wear them out much. Also more body lotion, which again is nice but I have dozens of bottles of it so it's really not needed.

I remember when I was 6/7 I woke up at 5am as you do, and you can see your presents but can't get up yet. My first thought was 'Oh no, they've got me a lawnmower' and wondering how I was going to act delighted with it whilst holding back tears! 2 hours later I woke again and unwrapped the 'lawnmower' to discover it was actually a bike!

When I was 18 I got a 'paint your own thimble' set. Now I do like sewing, but this was a china thimble so not overly useful!

My uncle is renowned for bad presents.
For my 14th birthday I got a Halfords voucher
One year he bought my mum and dad a oil and vinegar set, in the shape of 2 chefs. The vinegar one was tall and thin, and the oil one short and fat. They were huge. The tall one was probably about a foot and a half tall! And they were plastic.
My dad has never worn a polo shirt casually in his life (he wears cotton ones for work) and my uncle got him a set of 10 navy polyester ones, with a zip at the neckline! The same year, he got my mum some candles shaped like owls. She lit them once and now they look like they've been in a serious accident, half melted and actually quite terrifying!

Another year my mum said she wanted some new mugs for Christmas. I was 15, and got her a nice pair which fitted with the sage green colour in our old kitchen. My brother was 11 and went to wilkos/poundland (can't remember which) and bought her a set of 12 bright pink mugs for £1. He's always been awful with presents. Last Christmas I brought mum and dad's presents from him, and my dad bought mine! Plus he still owes me £15 for the birthday present I bought myself this year, and £20 for my mum's birthday present I bought on his behalf!

My nan likes to get us lots of little practical presents, but always asks what we want. So alongside a little bit of money, I get a bag with cotton buds, cotton wool, black socks, black hairbands etc. I really appreciate that bag - I haven't bought cotton buds in about 10 years! :)
  • When I was young I got a dictionary from my uncle, who was a head master. The school name was stamped in the front. For my birthday, I got the matching thesaurus (complete with stamp!)

A few years ago my grandparents gave us some terrifying red 'satin' sheets. The kind of horrible shiny fake satin that puts my teeth on edge! They were in a torn up plastic cover that had clearly spend a good few years in the bargain bin! They were truly vile!

Some of these stories have made me laugh.

The worst one I got was from my stepmum's mum and dad. We went over to their's for xmas dinner, we all opened presents... I was 12...13... I think. Well, I got to my present and it was a dress up set. It came with these tiny little plastic shoes which I wouldn't have been able to fit my toes in. Trying to look like I was grateful was really hard!! At first, I thought it was wrapped up for me by mistake, then they started telling me about all the little bits inside the box haha.

My OH's grandma gives us loads of little things that unfortunately get given to charity or go in the bin. It sounds awful and we feel awful but she does it every year. She is addicted to buying 'bargains'.... when they're actually just really cheap things that have no use...and no one wants them.... Its great for the kids as they literally get a huge sack full of presents. But as 20 something year olds, it isn't so exciting! Thankfully, the sack isn't as big anymore and we tend to get a voucher or money now which I think is money much better spent. .....However, this year is my daughters first Christmas and I can see the sack filling up again!!
