I like my Sony LCD TV and FM/AM/DVD radio.

Try searching wikipedia for independent assessments of the various technologies, e.g.

also see http://direct.tesco.com/buyersguide/lcd%20versus%20plasma%20tv.aspx and John Lewis website

Sony and Panasonic are generally considered by many to be the best brands. LG and Samsung are more budget options.
if you set your budget and screen size, and say what you want to do with your new TV, more specific recommendations can probably be given.,

Or Richer Sounds, where they know the products they are selling.

I've had LG TVs for the past 7 years - no complaints considering that they were much more competitively priced than Sony.
I've recently been given a 37" Samsung LCD set as a 60th pressie - very pleased with picture quality (once I'd played with piccie settings) - again it was much cheaper than Panny/Sony alternatives.
Another vote here for Richer Sounds - at least their staff know a bit about the machines they are selling ...in direct contrast with the likes of Comet,Currys...etc etc:rotfl:

Yes, to all those brands. They all do good TVs, check the picture and use the EPG and menu to see what you prefer, I love the new Sony menu system but that's me.

LCD V PLasma: http://direct.tesco.com/buyersguide/lcd%20versus%20plasma%20tv.aspx if you have loads of £ look at LED as well.

HD ready means the TV is capable of displaying a hd picture from a hd source you want HD 1080p the higher picture spec:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_ready

And get one with "freeview HD" just because the TV is HD and it has freeview it doesnt mean you get freeview in HD.

Don't make it easy do they?

Oh and another vote for John lewis, but if you have a Costco card they are great as well.

not sure you can say samsung are budget they are the leading brand in 3d technologhy alone

i have a mix in my house i have a sony in the living room and samsung in the bedrooms and to be honest i find the samsung to have better features and are a lot nicer to look at

but its really down to what your going to do with it i.e play games, connect blue ray, hd box or just watch conventional tv

best bet is to pick one and do a comparision search on google

look for offers aswell as you can get some good deals with warranties included i.e at john lewis

We bought a Samsung with some money given as a gift to us this year - people comment when they come round that the picture quality's impressive. Only issue we had was it took a bit of faffing about to get the PS2 working on it and the range of the remote isn't the most awesome I've ever seen. Other than that - very impressed with it as a bit of kit.
