Hi I am looking into upgrading my phone and I am stuck between getting a HTC Desire or i phone 4.

I know this is a big discussion point and is basically personal preference but I would like to outline my requirements and then people can advise me what device is best for the job.

1. Can the iphone play any flash content at all through its Safari browser without doing the cheat that I have seen on Youtube?

2. Can both phones play full length youtube videos, for example I would like to play 4od youtube videos on my phone?

3. Do both phones have a radio app available so that it is possible to listen to FM radio stations and digital radio?

4. Do both phones play BBC i player and/or have an app for this? I have heard from another HTC user that it is possible to use i player however the quality is very poor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'll try an help the best i can...

1: no flash content will work on the iphone 4 at present and not for the forseeable future although there is a new app just been released that will allow this (its called skyfire but its currently unavailable due to high demand)

2: No problems playing any videos with youtube, iphone even comes with a preinstalled youtube app i regularly watch 4od progs!!!

3: there is a few radio apps but to be honest any radio station you listen too will have there own app, but there are radio apps about that have the best 100 radio stations in the uk and ireland and many others.

4: i have only used the iplayer app through a jailbroken iphone and it works fine but this isn't available through the App store at present.. there is a online based player used through safari which works quite well but this is only for live tv and covers all the main free to air channels bbc, itv, ch4, E4, and others!

    Hope thats helps a little!!

    1. Iphone can't but hte Desire and Desire HD can.

    2. Yes. Android being Google it has a youtube app already to go.

    3. The Desire has a built in FM Radio app.

    4. There is an app called myplayer in the Android market that is a fully functional BBC i player.

    5. As previous post.

If you go for the Desire, the Desire HD is the way forward.

    Thanks for the reply's.

I ended up choosing the Desire, simply for the reason of the affordability factor.

I got the following deal from T-mobile:
    HTC Desire (brand new) £90
    24 month contract
    £15 line rental
Flext 35 tariff - provides £180 of credit each month, which can be used on calls, texts, pic messages, 08 numbers and voicemail.
    3GB monthly internet usage.

Any feedback on this deal would be great as I have 7 days to cancel.

    Thanks

    Not too bad.

Have a look at this thread. The Desire is a great phone but the Desire HD is even better.

Hi thanks for the reply appletime.

After reading that thread I am not too sure I got a very good deal really :(

Maybe I should have left it and requested my PAC.

What is the main difference between the HTC Desire and Desire HD?

    Thanks again

I had a choice of Desire or Desire HD and in most senses they are very similar. I decided to go for the Desire (non-HD) in the end as the HD version is so much bigger than the standard Desire. The standard Desire does everything I want (TV streams, Facebook, apps for everything etc) and the 5MP camera is ample for the amount of times I'll actually use it (maybe twice in a year). :)

The Desire is a great phone. The Desire HD is just that little bit better.
