I am after an entry level DSLR for my husband for Christmas and am unsure which to go for. I have saved £350 but could spend a little more if needed.
Can anyone recommend a good beginners dslr for this budget please. Thanks

I just sold all my DSLR and lenses on ebay as I bought one of these
http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/21693_pen-camera_e-p1_21723.htm
It's absolutely brilliant, does 99% of what a DSLR does and without the enormous weight when you are dragging it around with you.
Mine was £309 at PC world online....I wouldn't normally use them but it was a bit of a bargain.
My professional photographer chums [I am a complete amateur] are a little narked that I got one first. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Nikon D40 or D60 (old but still good - D60 is compatible with far more lenses) and a couple of lenses could be your best bet. Nikon D3000 or Canon 400D are also contenders, but keep in mind that an SLR is only as good as the lens at the front, and the nut at the back! Maybe best to subtly check with your husband if he has any preference...0

This Sony is exceptional. I have just bought one and it's brilliant. You can start by leaving everything on auto but the camera has plenty of features for you to explore as your knowledge increases. The quality of the pictures is exceptional. At £299 you have a little money over to buy accessories as well.0

I got a Nikon D3000 this year & I'm very happy with it. Can't remember what I paid for it but maybe around the £400 mark. My photography teacher reckons that Fuji & Nikon are best followed by canon. He thinks that Canons are faster & therefore superior for things like sports photography but Nikon & Fuji are better quality. I can't comment on any of that but thats what he thinks!1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100
MFW 2013 no. 62 £10,000/£10,000
MFW 2014 no 62 £8000/£70000 -
I've got a Canon 500D and am very please with it. Easy to use, and get some great shots from it.
The main reason i went for a canon is that my sister has some very expensive lenses (and she's a canon user) so i just borrow hers rather than forking out myself0 -
Another vote for the Nikon 3000 - it's right in your price range, and has the same quality lenses as the more expensive models. Well worth it.poppy100

Agree the skill level issue!
But worth registering with Canon (my choice) website, to see if you can book their discounted/free training days. Also look to see if there are any cash-back claims via the makers sites, too!
& Jessups have training too. http://www.jessopstrainingacademy.com/page.cfm/content/Courses/#BEGINNERS
Then maybe buy a good compact instead??

I got a cannon 1000D and love it!You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -

The Nikon D3000 has been replaced with the D3100 which is about £500 on Amazon.0 -
Personally I would ask your husband.
When you buy a DSL, for most people you are buying into a brand for many many years. People change their cameras but keep their lenses etcMartin Lewis is always giving us advice on how to force companies to do things.
How about giving us advice on how to remove ourselves from any part of MoneySupermarket.com
I hereby withdraw any permission Martin might have implied he gave MoneySupermarket.com to use any of my data. Further more, I do not wish ANY data about me, or any of my posts etc to be held on any computer system held by MoneySupermarket.com or any business it has any commercial interests in.0
