Sky Broadband needs BT line

As Sky broadband max is a great if you are want to subscribe to Sky as well I subscribed for Sky. Upon requesting broadband I was told that as I did not have a BT line I would not be able to get Sky broadband or any other telephone related service. I wa so careful to read all the T&Cs before subscribing and they didn't say anything about this "arrangement" between Sky and BT. It's so annoying and wasted my time.

I find that extremely hard to believe.
