Printer problem

I have an HP psc 2210 printer, that I have somehow or other managed to use with my Sony Vaio netbook in the past, so I know it is not a malfunction problem. I had to go all around the houses, and now can't remember which houses I went around!
I am now getting a message that I have to install One Note in order to proceed to printing. It does recognise my printer in the hardware listings, but on the "select printer" page when trying to print it says there is nothing there.
Please can someone tell me what One Note is, and why I can't just select my HP printer direct from the printing options page?

One note is part of MS Office, don't know why your having printer problems though.0

one note is just a microsoft application from the office suite. I would suggest that it is just a red herring, i can't understand why you would specifically have to install that just to print.
I'd try getting the drivers from the HP website (use your make and model number to search the site)
Install the drivers, then try again. You should be able to print from any application you like0 -
Hate HP; tried a few and their printers are cr*p and once lost all my pictures music and personal data because I uninstalled the annoying, buggy software that came with it.
Last one I had worked for about one printout before it died
sorry - I know others may love em but its epson for me.0 -
Thanks all. Not sure about "drivers" - need to get my non-techie head around that.
I've had this HP printer ever since I've had a home PC (2003) and have successfully used it with a desktop and a laptop, but I did install it via a CD, which I can't do on the netbook as there is no CD drive.
I'll keep trying. Many thanks everyone.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Have you still got the desktop or laptop ? If so you can install the printer using the cd on one of those (assuming they are networked with the Netbook) However I guess you are using the printer using USB to the Netbook and as such you should be able to remove it from the system from Control Panel, un plug it and then re install by plugging it back in. The netbook should re-install it for you using Windows Update.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Have you the CD and one of the other PC's let me know.
If not then Do this (also let us know which version of Windows you have on the Netbook)
1) Unplug Printer from PC
2) Go to Control Panel / Device Manager (depends on Windows Version of course
3) Select the Printer and Right Click on it and choose Remove.
4) Plug Printer Back in and wait a minute or two for Windows to re-install.
And that should be it4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
OP: 'drivers' are just little software programs that enable hardware devices (like printers or external drives) to work with your PC or laptop, nothing mysterious about them.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sorry guys I went to bed early last night so missed your further replies. Okay I will try what you say, and report back. Might not be today though, I really have to be in the mood for anything vaguely techie!OP: 'drivers' are just little software programs that enable hardware devices (like printers or external drives) to work with your PC or laptop, nothing mysterious about them.
Lol thanks for explaining what drivers are. The mysterious bit is what I'm meant to do with them!

You install them for the device you are trying to make work with your PC.
I would just start by reinstalling the relevant software for your printer-go to the HP download page and get the most recent version for your OS.No free lunch, and no free laptop
