Do i send my item abroad?

hi all, quick question. Just sold an item on ebay and someone from belgium has bought it. I only include postage details for UK as normally i dont post abroad.

However as this person has all ready bought the item and ended my listing I thought may as well send to them.

Question is do there tend to be more problems with sending abroad? I:e goods going missing etc.

Also what services are best to use, I only send items in the UK with signed for delivery so I know if person has got item. Can I do the same for international?

I have had this happen a few times where the buyer has been abroad. Most times I have rec'd emails from them prior to auction end asking for a new postage cost.

I tend to find that items I have posted abroad (kids dresses or shoes, nothing big or heavy) only end up cost 1 pound or so extra to what they would be if posted in the UK.

I use normal royal mail international.

If I were you pack the item up and take it to the post office to find out the cost. Then email the buyer telling them the cost to see if they are happy to pay it, although state that you didn't actually say you would post abroad. Also I'd add maybe another pound onto the postage for your troubles.

If it's worth less than £41 then it's OK to send it, you will be covered by a normal proof of postage just as you would be in the UK.

If it's worth more than that, then think about how you would insure it properly as it's more difficult to get a signature on items sent internationally.

Also, in the future, if you are happy to send overseas, then putting a price on the listing in advance will get more people bidding on spec without having to ask.

I recently had this problem, and personally I don't think it worth the stress or hassle for a person selling a few bits and bats when having a clear out.

You can change the settings on ebay so that only UK bidders can bid on your auctions.

Why not? More exposure = more money for your items, more bids and more sales.

It's no different to selling within the UK unless your items are worth more than £41.

I agree, it's not really much more hassle. Rather than taking it to the PO to check the weight, weigh it at home and look on the Royal Mail website to check prices. I have printed out the prices so I can refer to them in a flash.

crowqueen, i have also just noticed your an AAT accountant. I am hoping to be an accountant one day. Have just started my AAT level 2 in Sept and am really enjoying it. Long way to go yet though.

I've just finished level 2 myself. I think it is a fairly easy course - but I had a year in chartered before I decided to go away for a year to study something else, and A-Level Maths. Good luck - it's worth it and the exams are very good at following a set format.

As regards your item, Airsure is overkill for £12. You seriously don't need tracking - it will make it prohibitive for the buyer and do nothing for you in return. They are insured through Paypal, you are insured through the Post Office. Unless you send all your cheap items within the UK Special Delivery, you shouldn't even be thinking about tracking.

For low value items like yours most of us use small packet airmail and a free certificate of posting from the PO. You will not be eligible for Ebay protection but if it is lost you can recoup your losses from RM with the CoP.

Airsure adds a lot to the posting cost and as has been said there is no guarantee of tracking showing online.
