Sri Lanka in Australia ODI Series - 2nd ODI
Australia v Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka won by 29 runs (D/L method)

Sri Lanka came on this tour with one goal and achieved it with a match to spare. By handing Australia a seventh straight defeat [no draws or ties. Seven. Straight. Fails.], Kumar Sangakkara's men delivered their maiden series win in Australia in 26 years of trying.

I think you might notice this time around that no Aussie bowler is going to 'target' a batsman in the way Warney and McGrath used to do. The best they have is Mitchell Johnson and he blows hot and cold. And as for a spinner: PMSL.

Siddle is a decent quickie, however in years gone by he would be third or fourth change at best. I'd put him on a par with someone like pie-chucker Bichel from 10 years ago.

If England lose this series it will be a shock.

It won't be that simple. The pitches over here don't give much movement in the air or off the seam so they reward line and length, something English quicks aren't always good at.

Australia are really going to miss not having a decent spinner and if Punter doesn't weigh in with some big scores, Aus should be in a lot of bother in the second innings.

    It ain't won yet though!

The pitches don't give much movement under foot either and keeping our quick bowlers fit will be of chief concern.
If our first line bowlers able to bowl at will we'll be ok. Otherwise we're in the doings.
  • Glen Mcgrath said the series would be close .............but still predicts 5-0,quite frankly he is getting a little boring now .

G M was king of the sledgers, i suppose he could back it up with his amazing bowling, but he got a dose of his own medicine when he was bowling at the Zimbabwean nr 11 I believe- hey (insert name) how come you are so fat ? his reply :

    The chicken farmer, Eddo Brandes.

McGrath, as much as I respect him as a bowler, showed he cannot take it when he nearly walloped Ramnaresh Sarwan.

As for Generali's comments, I am aware of how Aussie wickets perform. First series I actively watched was Denness's tour in the early seventies (73-74 IIRC).

Sydney will take spin and we should win there as long as we bat first. I see Adelaide being a draw. The others, toss ups.

The liability for the bowling is likely to be Anderson to appears to have no plan B when the pitch is flat.

The pitches over here seem to treat batsmen well that play 'old fashioned' cricket (albeit with a run rate closer to 4 than 3 an over). Play yourself in, play a straight bat, keep the ball on the deck. English crickets often seem to struggle with those simple things.

I am more concerned about Finn at the moment. He needs to start firing on at least 3 cylinders. I really rate Finn as a prospect but a tour to Australia could crucify a young quickie. Anderson blows hot and cold. True. But he has had a good last two years and if he gets a head of steam then I think he will be fine. Broad and Swann undoubtedly are our best hopes for the bowling and will be expected to carry most of the load. Panesar may get a run out in Sydney. Not sure what to expect from Bresnan and Tremlett in Australia.
