Sky Overcharging

Hi All,

This is my first post, and Ive looked and cant see this posted anywhere else...

Here is my problem.. I signed up for Sky TV (with telephone & BB) in July, for the last 3 months, I'd noticed my bills were a little high, but I though this was due to Sky's weird billing process. What I've now discovered is that they were charging me £37.50 a month for services, and I was quoted £31.50.

I have it in writing from sky stating my monthly payment, and it was the price I was given on the phone when I started.

Does anyone know which requlator would be best to start with, or of any sample letters about that I could send Sky.

I've spoken to them several times and all they can tell me is its a mistake and I should never have been quoted that price and will never get that price.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

  • Hi All,

Just to give a quick update. Ive spoken to Ofcom. Ofcom have advised me to send Sky a letter stating that I want the service for the quoted price as agreed in the letter dated 8th September and send them a copy of letter, also asking them for a full refund on the overcharged amount, explaining that if this is not responded too I will be forwarding my complaint too OTELO on 01925430049.

I have to send it registered post, and demand a reply within 14 days. If they fail to reply I will send the complaint to OTELO.

I know this seems petty for £6, but I hate the fact they think they can get away with it.

Hope this helps anyone else, I'll try and keep my progress updated on here :)
  • Nothing petty about it. They do it to enough people who say "Sod it its only 6 quid" and eventually they've made another few thousand off the back of the customer.

What part of the service is overcharging you. If Skytalk or Sky broadband then otelo may be interested but not if it's sky tv. i think you will need to be very clear on this in your submission for it to hold water.

Did you ask for the 'free' 2Mb/2Gb broadband deal ?, as they pitch the data allowance low for a reason , so that after a month or so of exceeding the 2Gb allowance they move you onto the 'unlimited' broadband option but that isnt free, so your bill would go up.

but an increase nevertheless...I was not suggesting that James Murdoch personally sets the level of VAT.
