Congrat's HappySeagull. Picked a nice day to start weather wise!0

That brings up a point- what month of the year is best to retire?
Your Bday? Spring? Summer? Winter?
I would think the transition from work would be easier when the weather is better so you can take advantage of filling up your work day hours with fun pursuits outdoors.0 -
Spring, surely?
Even if the weather is still crap you know it's only going to improve, the days are getting longer, the trees turning green, the daffodils coming out... all the things that make for a happier mood after a depressing winter.
And you can use your new free time to get the garden ready for summer0 -
I think you could be right ;-)0

Reminds me of when I used to calculate the best time to go off travelling on long trips (employer offered unpaid leave).
It was best for me to head off around Christmas, and come back in about July (which meant, very roughly, either 6 or 18 months travelling).
That ensured I missed higher rate tax in the tax year I left, and in the tax year I returned
Add to that the ability to effectively convert leave annual into salary and only pay basic rate tax on it (by taking it after leaving, or before starting back) and travelling ended up being nicely subsidised.
I guess there could well be tax implications which may influence the choice of retirement date, eg, working enough of a tax year to fully use basic rate allowance then retiring.0 -

I think the opposite.
October, November has just kicked in. Nights are getting darker and life is depressing. So best time to throw in the job and head off for a long retirement vacation to the southern hempisphere (that's my plan at least!).Money won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!0 -

But not everyone can afford long term, long haul travel in retirement.
I certainly plan on being able to lol0 -

I'm less than 3000 days to go :->, I've almost doubled my contributions to make the most of high rate tax and the 8 or so years I have left to save. Roll on August 2021.0
