I drive a German BMW and it was made in America like many are.

Presently thinking of buying a new car that is a British brand that is made in Austria!
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

IPace? Gets good reviews but the forthcoming Audi eTron is getting better, heres one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJFKIXkxiSo

Need some time to see what the real range will be but the iPace isn't getting plaudits for that.

Whereas I would be fine with the niro or kona, I would not get nearly 5k or whatever the extra annual cost of the 'branded' alternative extra pleasure from going with the brand regardless of affordability. It is a tool for getting from a to b and will soon drive itself anyway. I care not at all what those who see me in it think about my choice and what it says about what I can afford. I work no more than 25 hours a week, they can have their 40++ hour weeks and there branded cars if they prefer.
    I think....

I'll likely be getting the Niro (or maybe the new Soul if its out in time as rumours seem to indicate) but for someone who is a car enthusiast* and likes Jag or Audi and can afford it and doesn't need to work a 40 hour week to pay for it , why not ? I choose not to just because I cant get over the VFM aspect. But some car nuts do fall in love with their brands and who am I to decry their silly obsession :D

    * has been suckered into thinking brands make a difference is my view, but each to their own :D

I can see that if one were to spend a lot of time in ones car that the difference in comfort between an expensive one and a cheap one might be worth it if one had enough money to meet all ones other material desires. For me being slightly more comfortable for the 2 hours max I spend in a car is worth much less than other things I could spend the extra 5k depreciation on but I would have to be pretty rich indeed for this trade off to change.

However unless the number plate was an investment I can not see how it could ever bring me any utility.

Well my German car has increased in value by maybe 20% since I bought it. And my reg place is up 300% since purchasing.

Not sure why you have to insult people such as myself - based on something as stupid as a car or number plate. Just accept people are different for you and make different choices.

I get to drive a Porsche 911 for nothing and actually make money. Maybe not so dumb. Had it for four years and the appreciation has paid for all running costs including fuel.

You do however appear to care about what over people drive and then make your own stereotypical decision on that person's wealth and outlook. All based on their choice of car!

You seem to have the outlook of everybody is judging everybody else on their car choice, but your better than that because you don't care, while at the same time pronouncing that anybody who drives a german car has wasted their money!

For the record, seeing as you care so much I drive a 14 year old Mazda 323. Am I saintly or sinner in your eyes!!

I have always assumed that they had wasted somebody else's money.

When did this thread turn into Top Gear, did I miss something?

Clarkson's Law states that any online discussion degenerates into a discussion about cars until at some point someone compares Audi drivers to the Nazis, or Hitler and his deeds, and the discussion ends.
