    The dogs are Alaskan Malamutes

I hope you take them to Glencoe or Aviemore every winter. It's only fair. Mush! Mush!

There is a big race event at Aviemore but we have never been as it is in term time. My girl is getting too old to race now but I have a permit for our local forest to run them there for fun. You can't just do this anywhere- you need landowner permission, liability insurance, and all that jazz. Plus the willingness to get up at the crack of dawn on a weekend to get out there before the idiot dog walkers who can't control their pets. My 2 are plodders but I have a friend who runs a team of 10/12 huskies that can easily exceed 25mph.

Sorry for the thread hijack - now back to the plans for Early Retirement.

I suppose you could try it with 101 chihuahuas.

Alaskan Malamutes are enormous! I met one in Richmond Park a few days ago, who was showing off by lying down with his legs up next to his two elderly lady owners. Beautiful coat, he had. But I think they need very good training, like all spitzes (my friend had Akitas, which are also quite a handful).

However, you should not dismiss Chihuahuas and other small breeds so lightly. What they lack in size they make up for in character. They tend to have strong personalities, as do other small breeds, like Yorkies, and I think sometimes they regard themselves as much bigger than they are, like Rottweilers (they can be a bit too yappy, though). We've had small breeds as well as very big ones in our family.

Completely OT, but just thought I'd stick my oar in, especially since dogs can be very much part of a retirement 'plan'. :D

Well your friend who has a team of 10/12 isn't going to retire early, I had to lie down at the thought of the food bill!

The aforementioned Papillons are one of the Spitz types.

With reference to retirement Toys. You know that Tesla retirement present.
Today while driving to the South of France not a Tesla in sight.
    BUT
However a rarer bird came into view in my mirrors. A very strange and very rare bird or if you must SUV. A Lamborghini URUS. Apparently one of only 1000 to be Produced this year. As production only began in February perhaps one of 500 on the planet.

I'd rather have one of the wee dog-pulled chariots, thank you.

God knows what it costs, you see if you spend a shed load of money, I want people to turn their heads, whereas that, you'd probably say, is there a new Evoque out?

Something like a Pagani Zonda, now there goes a retirement toy.

Back on topic, customer is now panicking as the slow dawn or realisation floats over them, yes there are only five companies that do what we do, now there are four.....in some ways it should make it easier. But none of them have capacity. It really is fun now that I know I'm going, my emails have become less corporate :)

Your post reminded me of one of the funniest clips on YouTube.....a guy totally losing control of his Labrador in Richmond Park, 'Fenton' who is happily chasing a huge herd of deer.
