    As long as it works for you, that's all that matters, however high or low the numbers happen to be.

    My finances are laughable compared to you guys here, but its necessary to regain my health. Within a few months, I'll be writing kindle books to add income (published one last year, so I sort of know the ropes) and next year, as I expect to recover my health somewhat, I'll be travelling by doing some live-in cat sitting.

    You are such a character KC, I didn't even realise that live-in cat sitting was a thing! Ps. You need to let us know on MFW when your books come out so that we can keep up-to-date :)

    Thats a huge compliment, thank you :cool:

    Absolutely! I'm reading about list-growing too, but online mates get first dibs anyway :)

    As well as books in the same area as my current kindle one, I've realised I can do short (30,000 words) biography ones - a diary one of my Interrail trip and au pair stay, plus maybe a North American one based Chicago/Toronto, plus dramatised biographies based on the genealogy I've studied, there are at least half a dozen people with extraordinary lives, from the Irish sergeant at Waterloo, to the Prohibition buster in New York to the mother of one of the debutantes in the last Royal Season before World War II.

    My family does spread out :D

    So....I think its time to get out and now I need I've decided to get out. But I'm not going to walk into the office tomorrow and hand in my notice (which would be the logical impulsive thing to do :)). No...I'm going to go for the sensible version (well, having started this thread in 2010 you wouldn't expect me to rush would you?

    So the plan is to wait until 2016 bonuses are confirmed, which would be end of October / November (if I don't wait the cost could be c. 50-60k) and then make the move.

    Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets. Currently riding high in the betting stakes are:
    1. ML bottles it and decides to do another year;
    2. ML's bonus is bigger than expected so he decides to do another year to get another bonus;
    3. ML does actually try to hand in his notice, but decides to stay after they offer him more money;
    4. As 3, but they offer him a really interesting project so he stays to do that;
    5. ML decides to go part time, but ends up still doing full time hours anyway;
    6. ML really does actually do it this time!

    Seconded :T. A lazy Sunday, knowing there is no 'Monday' the next day, is absolutely priceless. Mr GG and I often remark on how relaxed Sunday mornings gradually morphed into work mode as the day went on, robbing us of our already limited free time. (And to be clear, Mr GG loved his job and got real satisfaction from it in the same way you seem to do.)

    Sounds like utter bliss to me - If I could give up work today I'd do it in an instant and the thought of working for another 20+ years (I'm 39) fills me with utter dread.
    I am insane and have 4 mortgages - total mortgage debt £200k. Target to zero = 10 years! (2030)

    Having been retired for 6 months, I can thoroughly recommend it. You find yourself walking along quite happily then wonder what you have to do the next day. There follows a big smile when you realise there is nothing of importance or urgency.
    Coming back from holiday was also bliss as there was no end of holiday feeling of what will be lurking in my in-box just a quiet satisfaction that the next holiday will be along in a couple of months.

    The biggest drawback of retirement is having to write "Rest day" on every date in the diary!

    Plus no Bank Holidays or weekends :(. People have no idea how much we suffer :rotfl:.
    A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
