    Hung up my suit!
It's taken a while but yes....probably the penny has dropped.

I have a provisional agreement in place to drop to part time but a realisation that it's probably not enough.

I'm understanding now that we just don't need the money - I've bought a few things over the last year but it all still sits in boxes. When I look in my wallet I also know that the money (in terms of cash) barely moves.

So....I think its time to get out and now I need I've decided to get out. But I'm not going to walk into the office tomorrow and hand in my notice (which would be the logical impulsive thing to do :)). No...I'm going to go for the sensible version (well, having started this thread in 2010 you wouldn't expect me to rush would you?

So the plan is to wait until 2016 bonuses are confirmed, which would be end of October / November (if I don't wait the cost could be c. 50-60k) and then make the move.

It's going to be a tense two months.
Money won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!

That and a chance to do some leisurely research on retirement plans. That's part of what I've been doing since adjusting my own plans. :)

Having been early retired for 20 years I now only know the weekend is coming up as I have Aqua Gym on a Friday and only know it's Sunday as I have Nordic Walking on Monday.

I'm exactly the same, but I'm only gone two years!!

Sunday nights are just absolute bliss. When I remember it's Sunday that is..lol.

    Good for you!

There are a number of things to be decided over the next few months which I'll need to get in order....more later.

I am also planning to leave either Dec 2016 or Mar 2017 at the latest (like the idea of the end of the tax year). I only have to give 3 month notice and have 17 days leave due. Spoke to my boss and he says we should go and see the director and agree how we transition it over the next 6 months.

He is not happy about me leaving and seems to want to phase it over 6 months when in practice I can hand my notice in begining of October and leave mid/end of Nov.

Part of me wants to leave on good terms, as I dont see any need/not healthy to go into retirement with any bad feeling.

These last six months, as my retirment plans have been brought forward a year or two, have not been pleasant.

I'm retiring (from paid work) this Friday :j:j:j

My finances are laughable compared to you guys here, but its necessary to regain my health. Within a few months, I'll be writing kindle books to add income (published one last year, so I sort of know the ropes) and next year, as I expect to recover my health somewhat, I'll be travelling by doing some live-in cat sitting.

I have a similar situation. I know they are going to throw a hissy fit when I hand in my notice which I have planned to do in 12 months time and they will probably offer me a decent rise to stay but there comes a point when enough is enough. I'd like to leave on good terms but I think that will be very difficult. I hate my job (used to love it) and for my own sanity I can't stay any longer than that and the GF hates hers so we figure its probably best time to go do some travelling and escape the corporate drudgery for a while.
  • Yes even a break fro 6-12 months would be great even if I then found a job somewhere else if I really hated being retired. I have discussed part/time sabbatical but again they don't want to play.

In many ways I am glad, as its forced my hand and I think I would have merrily gone on to 58, my original plan and then been tempted to stay to 60.

NEVR quit before the bonuses get paid.

We had to do that once, to take up a new job offer. And it was a real p*sser.
