Excellent, staff get a wage they can rely on rather than having to fall back on charity, everyone happy. It also means that those staff who aren't customer facing get a decent wage.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I never tip my butler. Am I committing a faux par?

Mmm, maybe a 'faux pas' :)

Can't get my head around tipping at all, and am always suspicious about whether those for whom the tip was intended, actually received it.

if it's your butler on your cruise ship - then yes.

    I decided today - 301 days to go :D

Thanks to all for insighful posts which helped me make my mind up.

    My thought is;
End of a tax year so its simple to manage.
Start of Spring and on into Summer (looks out of window  ) so get benefit of that rather than retire in say November and have several months rubbish weather.
Get max tax relief at 40% for this year and I wont be paying any tax for 5 years so I make 20% immediately.

    Well done, all the best.

That will fly in. Any plans for your retirement?

I have to admit I didn't, and still don't, but am enjoying it immensely just the same, nearly two years in now. :T

Probably look at taking some reeeeally last minute holidays. Might be a cruise, might be deals on flights, whatever, the sort of "75% off if you go on Wednesday) Ive gota lot of airmiles, they can be tricky to get even looking out 10+ months but for this week and nextw eek theyoften get freed up.

And there is the grandkids, more walking than I have time for now to get fitter, and zero corporate b*******t !!

Planning to spend a fair bit this year on doing the house and garden up as well dont want to start my retirement doing a lot of DIY.

56 days to go for me. I was hoping to soldier on at work for another 2-3 months to boost the retirement fund, but things at work have gotten to a stage where I just can't be bothered with it any more. So, at the end of this month my notice will be handed in and I will leave at the end of July. My other half is already getting a severance from her work and will stop at the same time, so it is working out quite well in that regard. And whilst a little bit more money in the fund would have been nice, since I resolved to resign at the end of this month I have noticed an extra spring in my step, so deep down I think it is the right decision. :)

This will also kind of end my participation in the Save £12K for 2016, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

My husband and I both stopped work at the same time. It was nice to share the enjoyment. It's a big decision to make, but when you get that spring in your step, you know it's right.

Good plan. Along with paying down debts and mortgage in the five years before early departure, I also replaced flooring, doors, windows, and bathrooms. Whew! The kitchen was fine so I left that.

Now it HAS to be done!. But I will have a friend oversee it all, and depart on a break for ten days during the works. Life is tough isn't it.

Just have to get the ball rolling. Cannot make my mind up about colours and style and all that jazz. Maybe in September when the Summer is over.... maybe.
