as we predicted no gas leak !
iv been taking my readings and its been 1 unit a day until yesterday we used 2 !
ill give my readings in on friday and i hope they will re calculate my bill !
its really starting to wind me up!0 -
The weather is getting colder so gas central heating is having to work harder. My house used over 3 units yesterday and the heating is off from 08:00 to 17:00, plus it goes off at night for 6 hours and the house thermostat is only set at 19 degrees, so it isn't overly warm. It is quite a big house though, but if you're in all day, with the heating on, that isn't so outrageous for a mid terrace, especially if it's not so well insulated.
Have they said any more about the huge usage reported earlier?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. We have the heating on for 3 hours from 7-10pm and thats it, when im cooking dinner the oven heats up the house !
they havent said anything yet although they did say they may look into re calculating the bill against our reportings this week .
i just dont know how it can be so vast !0 -
That does sound high for such small usage, cooking doesn't normally take a lot. When is the boiler providing hot water, as that can use quite a bit? Check your meter at different times of the day if you can. Like before you go out and when you come back. If nothing is set to run during that time, then you should have zero usage.
If you really want to depress yourself, watch the meter when the boiler is actually burning gas. That is significant, and makes you appreciate that the burners aren't actually operating the full time the boiler is on - or at least they shouldn't be!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. i called with my weeks readings and they have agreed to scrap the previous bill and rebilled me at the new calculacted cost of £14.46 !!!
thank you everyone for all your help!
When you buy a house you know about the big things but noone tells you about all these little hurdles along the way !0 -
Well done! Nice to hear a satisfactory outcome.
It is worth monitoring your usage on a regular basis from now on. It means there won't be any nasty surprises coming and alerts you to higher than normal usage as soon as it happens.
If you are reasonably adept with spreadsheets, you can even estimate the cost corresponding to your readings - should you be that way inclined of course!:)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
