Gillian Mckeith diet woes

I used to be a vegetarian, but found that i couldnt afford to eat a healthy, balanced diet, and provide a balanced diet for my children whilst i was on benefits (when ex OH and i split up). It annoys me that i can pick up junk food really cheaply, yet have to pay £2.99 for a small punet of rasberries, or over a pound for a small butternut squash!!! People wouldnt need Gillians diets if good food was more reasonably priced.
Good luck with your diet mikey, sounds like you are doing well already!!!!0 -
That is what surprised me most when shopping recently, all the main supermarkets seem to play on the slightly less conventional. A good sized Butternut squash in our local supermarket was £3.15. This at the end of the day is seasonable fare, if I was after one in late spring I guess that would be acceptable, however the supermarkets are loaded with pumpkins for halloween so why is it that butternut squash is so expensive?I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0

Although I'm sure that some of the principles of healthy eating behind GM's theories are all well and good, I find it hard to take any sort of dietary advice from someone who looks so tired, strained, skinny and (to me anyway) unhealthy!0

I agree Freda. She does not look the picture of perfect health and I'm sure she is only in her forties. OK diet cannot change the attributes god gave you (whoever or whatever your god maybe) but I would have thought she should have a healthy glow to her hair, eyes and skin!0

Freda,
Have a look at her website, the images on there bear no resemblance to her on the show, defo photo touch up. I do agree that she does not look very well this series, very drawn.I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0 -

I paid £3 for an enormous butternut squash on Saturday from a farm shop, it was about the same size as a watermelonAlso the squash I see in Tesco don't seem to be homegrown.

Pumpkins keep for quite a while too so stock up on them after halloween when they will be cheaper!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

I agree she looks terrible, but I read an interview which she gave a few years ago in which she said that she has a serious congenital condition (can't remember which one now) which made her very unwell, and also almost completely disabled. She came up with her diet, after experimenting on the foods which made her feel better, and her health whilst still not good, is miles better than it was, and she is now able to move about freely (however if you look at her closely, she does have a very curved spine)
That said, I think her food looks and sounds vile - particularly that disgusting bile green sludge she makes people drink for breakfast! I'm also in the camp that says it is possible to eat healthily and enjoyably without going to such extremes. At the end of the day if you enjoy the food you are eating, you are more likely to make the changes permanently rather than just as a quick fix.
I'm also not at all sure that it is a good idea to lose 3.5 stones in just 8 weeks. Recommended safe weight loss over this kind of period would be less than half this amount.0 -
We have a farmers market local to us, every two weeks which I have checked out in the past, they do sell a choice of large veg at very reasonable prices.
I have to be very careful what I bring home though as the other day I got some organic broccoli, and the missus was appalled when she saw how many caterpillars came out. The big head was reduced considerably before it got cooked.
You get what you pay for and sometimes a little extra!!!!I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0 -
grrr just did a massive reply to this then lost ( and i was ranting as well
)
I dont like Mckieth. I agree she looks ill and im not about to take dietary advice from an unhinged skeleton, thanks all the same.
I am an avid watcher tho usually im sitting down with a couple of jaffa cakes and a brewIm all for a healthy diet, my OH has high cholestrol, everyone apart from me ( so far in my family are diabetic) and Im keen to home-cook as healthy as possible. Fine.
This is what gets me annoyed. Why does everything that she makes look so rank?
There is no way what she suggests is in any way balanced. As far as I see it there is no complex carbs whatsoever, and absolutely no dairy. In fact, aside from a little fish on the odd program, I havent seen any protein outside of pulses legumes. I digress.
Why does what she makes have to be so foul looking. Ever episode there is the contestant gagging down some pond-like smoothie and holiding their nose & heaving. Healthy food shouldnt be a punishment. Wheres the 5-bean chilli with brown rice? Wheres the stirfry with crunchy veg & cashews with a ginger & lime juice sauce? Wheres the jacket potatoes? ( oh course, no complex carbs allowed!) Wheres the cheesecake made with silken tofu?
there is plenty that can be done with healthy food, without it having to be something so extreme you have to force down or extend your overdraft to do, or thats been flown all the way from japan?
Miso? WTH is that? Im all for eating things you actively LIKE, but what is it? Its effectively just yeast from soya beans isnt it? Fine, if you LIKE IT, but you can make a veggie soup with an organic stock cube & market veg and its lovely, and does the same job ( if not better at least its filling)
I think we will find in years to come that poor old gillian in fact has anorexia nervosa which is why she only eats things with no density. Or we'll see her going the saem way as poor old Dr Atkins.
Everything in moderation is my advice- not that i take it myself, I think i might have a cake for lunch:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
