I've lost my Iphone:mad: ( anyone found it? :o ) anyhow, i have insurance with my bank for it, i've reported it to vodafone who says they will barr it, will this stop it being used at all? whats to stop the finder sticking another card in? can't even remember if it was on or off when i lost it, don't know what difference it would make but they asked me :(

  • baring the phone will stop people being able to use the PHONE yes as well as the SIM. I had this done with my blackberry (which was stolen in work) and put a note up to tell the thief it wouldnt work for them and why..... it turned up a month later in our lost property drawer!!!! So you never know (and I am also pleased to say the person in question was caught and fired care of me recovering data they had put on my phone!)

The IMEI, kinda its serial number will be barred on all UK networks, another card won't work.

Unfortunatly it's UK only so the chances are if the phone was stolen rather than lost it's on it's way out of the UK.

cheers, it's pass coded too so whoever finds it won't be able to use it, they could still access my data though eh? anyway the mob company could remote wipe it?

Iphone can wipe data after 10 incorrect tries but you need to have set it.

The mobile company can't remote wipe it, unles set up to accept such commands. Apples MobileMe service can but it has to be setup in advance and you need to have subscribed to it.

To be honest whoever has it if it was lost/ found or stolen won't care about the data just the monetry value of the hardware.

for insurance u need the police involved plus they will block the IMEI. never rely on the network.
