  • I've just finished a placement at our local hospital and I was amazed at how many youngish people - aged 18 - 40 had come in with a cyst or abscess to be removed/drained. There was at least 2 or 3 per week during my placement. I took note because I had a abscess under my arm whilst I was working there. I phoned NHS direct about mine and they suggested i go to the GP.

I would advise anyone to go to their GP to have a lump checked out. It may just be a cyst or abscess(not all abscesses can be treated by antibiotics) that needs draining. On the other hand it could need further investigation.

    All the best divadee.

I agree with Nurse Bambi. I have had one cyst surgically removed and my 3 year old son had one removed from just above his eyebrow a few years ago, they are quite common these days.

I've just come across this thread and wanted to add my best wishes too.

Keep your chin up (it lengthens your neck and keeps you looking young! ;)) and don't worry (too much)!

We're all thinking about you. :-*

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
