Nothing special about this, they have been promoting all these tariffs for some time now. With respect i would suggest their are better ways of making telephone savings!!!!
See the Money Saving Expert " Cheapest Phone Alone Solution" here for starters.

TalkTalk's service is terrible and its not worth going for. If you mostly call 0845,0870 and mobile numbers and maybe short geographical calls, then I would recommend Talk anywhere.
If I wanted to use another provider like primus or talktalk, I would have to pay up £137 for a new BT line. (£124 minimum).
Or £99 when you sign up to Bulldogs terrible service.0 -
I did not suggest members use Talk Talk ?,or Bulldog come to that. I clearly referred them to the section marked "Cheapest Phone Alone Solution".
Cable customers who live in premises that were previously served by BT, should be able to return to BT if they so desire, free of reconnection providing wiring is still in situ.0 -
For those who want to stay with Cable and get cheaper peak geographical,non-geographical,mobile,and Intl calls.
http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php is a good all round money saving service using their FREEphone access number.
The advantage of this service is you only pay when you use it(Unlike a call package deal). You dont pay when you are away EG Holidays. Also onlike with 0844 dial through gateway numbers you dont pay unless your connected.
Their is a connection charge of 4p as opposed to NTL/TELEWEST,s 6p .0 -
BT wanted £200 to repair the line which was around 5 years ago, we then asked them to disconnect it and we moved to Telewest. BT now said it would cost up to £137 to have a new line.
So what is wrong with Talk anywhere from Telewest? Because its the only tariff available that gives you bundled minutes to call all kinds of destinations and receive one simple bill for TV,Internet and phone.0 -
I've only just got around to reading this thread but it sounds to me that the OP is an employee or something of Telewest.
TW's TalkAnywhere is a unique idea. There are a lot of drawbacks like 200mins equates to only 6mins of calls each and every day for a month and the 400mins equates to 12mins of calls each and every day for a month. This is extremely low if you ask me but I do understand why they're so low as they include calls to mobiles and NGN's.
It really depends on calling patterns and type of numbers called. For example ringing mostly mobiles or maybe NGN's then it may be ok but otherwise it's not. Remember that mobiles can be rung for as little as a 4p/min now (I think) thanks to the likes of Call18185 and dial-through providers.
You also mention TW's TalkUnlimited and Talk Evening&Weekends for which I'd like to remind forum readers that TW/NTL's price plans for these services are THE most expensive for a landline teleco. In fact, TW/NTL are most expensive than BT.
The cheapest all-inclusive plan is £5 (Sky customers only unfortunately) or £7.25 for those that aren't Sky customers and if you add £11 linerental on top then it equates to £18.25 a month (for the £7.25 all-inclusive plan) or £16 for all-inclusive calls per month. Compare this with TW's all-inclusive plan costing £25.50, a whole £7.25 cheaper (based on the £7.25 all-inclusive plan) or even a whole £9.50 for those eligible for Sky's all-inclusive plan.
If you are unfortunate enough to go outside TW's inclusive minutes (which I think is likely) then you pay normal TW's rates for which again TW are more expensive for nearly (most likely ALL) calls than the many, many other competitors out there available for those with a BT landline.
TW used to have a comparison page comparing them to other providers but now they've had to remove this as even BT are cheaper than them.
Don't forget that NTL increased their 0870 rates to 10p/min for which I think TW have as well except TW haven't updated their website yet. Compare this with BT charging 7p/min but even this can be beaten with Call18185.
I personally would recommend avoiding NTL/TW.0 -
I'm not a telewest employee yet and might never will be an employee for Telewest, more likely to become a marketing employee for a large corporation such as Unilever or Procter and Gamble.
Your quite right, it really depends on your usage pattern. So far they told me, I spent 110 minutes and 56 seconds on calls to mobiles which were made during weekdays, 20 minutes and 17 seconds on calls to mobiles during evening and weekends, 41 minutes and 9 seconds on calls to 0845 numbers, 6 minutes and 24 seconds on calls to 0870 numbers and the remaining minutes were rolled-over to the next month.
The only other company that offers this kind of service is Cable and Wireless to its business customers.
Its strange that NTL has not started offering this service to original NTL franchises.
Telewest told me that calls to mobiles made using talk anywhere are equivalent to 4p per minute.
I've found that my telephone bills have dropped a lot since moving to Talk anywhere and I really like the idea of mobile and 0845 calls included. I also managed to get 2mb cable broadband for £13 and there supreme tv pack for £10 by retentions as I told them that I would move elsewhere if they didn't lower the price.0 -
If Telewest charges to mobiles are such a bargain at 4p a minute why are you suggesting people should use Discount Dial at 5p a minute0
-
I suggested Discount Dial for those who subscribe to Talk Weekends,Talk Evenings and Weekends and Talk Unlimited subscribers who make calls to mobiles less than frequent.
Subscribing to Talk anywhere is not beneficial for those who call geographical numbers 98% of the time and the other plans are recommended for that kind of usage.
I also suggested Discount Dial for pay as you go mobile phone users as they can make calls to mobiles on different networks for about 15p per minute rather than 30p to 50p per minute depending on the pay as you go tariff. It is NOT recommended for T-Mobile users since that T-Mobile charge 40p per minute for all calls to 08 numbers.
Hope that answers your question.0 -

Because as you point out later in the thread "Subscribing to Talk anywhere is not beneficial for those who call geographical numbers 98% of the time"
Its a niche product, with a limited market, and their are more flexible ways of dealing with the type of calling you would need to benefit from it.0
