    My son has both.

He lives on the Xbox, and has hardly ever used his PS3.

My husband has not even been tempted to bring the PS3 downstairs to use as he lives on the Xbox too!
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • It's the age old deabte - 360 or PS3... I have a 360, went with my mates idea as he has had both and only uses the PS3 for the BluRay and always the 360 for gaming. I've never tried the PS3 apart from one night at my mates after I already had the 360 and I didn't rate the online gameplay, was nothing in comparison to the 360 (may have just been a bad night though!)

Although you pay for the online experience with the 360, I reckon you get your monies worth - always able to get cheaper Subscriptions (eg just renewed a month or so ago through the XBox 360 Dashboard for £23.99 for 12 month subscription)

£2 a month is nothing for the amount of usage I get out of it.... Too much according to my wife!!

All my mates play online with the 360 so that helped influence but if his mates all have PS3's then I'd go that way, if 360's then go that way - if netiher then personally I'd go for the 360 - he won't be disappointed...

Having said that - he won't be disappointed no matter which way you go!!
  • 360... controllers are lot more comfortable than the PS3's!

    Also Xbox live > PSNetwork
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

    This age old question!!

The truth is, they've very very close, and neither really has any stand out features over the other, apart from the PS3 has the BD player.

So it really boils down to what his friends have as the main argument on which to get.

Seriously, anyone that comes on here and says that one is "far better than the other" is just a fanboy, don't listen to them.

The online on both is very similar, anyone that says the PS3 online is rubbish probably has an xbox and has never played the PS3.

Same goes for the Xbox live vs PSN. Its true that once PSN was rubbish as there wasn't a lot of content on it, but now its packed out so anyone saying otherwise will most likely be a fan boy.

Equally, anyone saying that the graphical power of the PS3 is far superior to the Xbox is a fanboy too. There really isn't a lot of difference between the games.

The main questions to ask are:
    1. Do you want a blu ray player?
    2. Will it be used for online gaming?
    3. If so, are you happy to pay for online gaming?
    4. What consoles do your friends have?

Go for the xbox. I have both and the xbox is used for all my gaming and the PS3 for the Blu-ray.

Interesting point to note for all those saying theres not much to choose between the consoles in terms of gaming performance - if you read the various comparison features on Eurogamer, as a general rule the PS3 version of a game often comes off worse than the 360 version - often framerates are lower overall and prone to drops, often textures are of a lower resolution and occasionally there are various fancy effects missing from the playstation version that are present on the 360.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a lot of this is down to the fact that the majority of games are developed natively on the 360 then ported across to the PS3 with often less than agreeable results.

From a purely personal point of view, I much prefer the 360 pad too - PS3 is far too lightweight and flimsy with big dead zones on the analogue sticks, and stupid uncomfortable convex triggers. I'd also say that you can pick up decent blu ray players for £100 now, so PS3 has pretty much lost its trump card here.

I'd say go for PS3 - graphics is so much better and you get a BluRay player.

Though bosseyed does have a point - I agree, the 360 pad is better - particularly for shooters.
