Closing a barclays account

    I was told that it is too difficult to prove that the person on the recording is not an imposter. It would certainly be very difficult. Maybe we should get people to sign up over video conference :p

    That wouldn't be the valid reason for claim in this instance.

    That reason code is used when the Payer disputes they ever agreed to a DDI in the first instance.
    The OP admits to having attempted to cancel the DDI. (with the Originator)
    (and in the other thread implies it was a long standing agreement where it has been collected without issue for previous monthly amounts) ;)

    The reason for any claim would therefore probably be 'Payer has cancelled DDI direct with Originator'

  • On the day I noticed that the company (Churchill) had tried to take the money out of the account and I was -£35, I then put £40 into the account, so Churchill have now got their payment for this month, but am still left with the £22 reserve usage fee. If I opted out of this reserve usage fee (before the 15th Nov when the £22 is due to be debited from my account) would the bank still be able to keep charging me the £22 every 5 days??
    Sorry to keep going on, but this is the first time anything like this has ever happened and dont know where I stand??? Thanks

    The Barclays reserve feature allows payments you have authorised to be honoured even if you don't have cleared funds in your account at the time of the transaction to pay for them yourself - the bank is promising to lend you the money for which they will charge a fee.

    If cleared funds are paid into the account before the end of the the same working day the transaction was withdrawn, you won't incur the the reserve fee

    Contact the bank and ask them to explain further if you still don't understand. It could be that what you paid in that day did not clear that day.


    Edit: having said that, I just re-read your version of accounts from the other thread you posted in. There you said the DDI was cancelled direct with your own bank before the collection day. Therefore it should not have been paid by your bank (assuming you did correctly cancel using the online facility). Contact the bank for a full explanation.
    I don't know if the barclays online banking allows for automatic, immediate instructions to be carried out (like lloydstsb) or simply sends a message for someone at the bank to action your request (like hsbc)

  • Well after much arguing (which didnt get me anywhere) I managed to get Barclays to take the Reserve Usage Fee off my account, so wont be getting charged the £22 every 5 days! Still got the first £22 charges so at the min its in the minus again, but can stay like that! Opening a new account so I can get my christmas shopping done online, wont be using Barclays again!

    What did the bank say as to why they paid a DD you claim to have previously cancelled directly with them? :huh:

  • They said I hadn't gave them notice before the 'cut off point' so couldn't argue really. I explained what had happened and asked if there was any way they could wipe the charges....no chance! So stuck with the charges. Like I said they can stay there, opened a new account at Natwest :)

    What date did you actually cancel the DDI with your bank?
    Is there any argument by the bank that they didn't action your instruction on that date?(if so, could you provide details please?)

    What date did they tell you was the 'cut off point' that you missed?
