Train Ticket Help
Hi,
I was wondering if any of you can help me gain cheaper tickets to Southampton by train.
I will be travelling from Ainsdale to Southampton on the 8th of December and the cheapest I've found so far is £46 which is okay but I want to see if you can get at any lower.
* I need to arrive in Southampton by 12:00pm (12:20pm latest!).
* I can leave at the earliest possible time.
* I have considered a hotel over night and travel day before but surely this would eliminate any savings in train tickets.
* I'll be leaving Southampton from 5pm onwards and need to arrive back in Ainsdale at that same day so on last train latest but I don't mind.
* I have a 16-25 railcard which cuts 1/3 of the fees.
My main problem is finding cheap outgoing for that time (obviously peak) where as I can find return single for £15! :O
I've tried split ticketing as suggested but I'm getting absoloutely nowhere!
Thanks guys for any help.
:cool:

Sounds like a football match to me.. See what you can get from Liverpool singles each way to london then try megatrain.com for cheap tickets to Southampton."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

And remember you don't have to return the same way you came - out via London and back on that £15 ticket might be the way to go
Currently plenty of £1 fares on megatrain btw.0 -

Ok thanks.
& University open day btw. :P0 -
Have you tried Megatrain? You can get stupidly cheap tickets for as little as a pound each way! For that price though, the train will be restricted as to which coach you can travel in, and the route will also be that of a 'round the houses' one I would have thought!0

It's like £20 singles on Virgin from Liverpool to London.. I'll have to ponder round later.
Do you know any good websites for that trip?
And Megatrain will work a treat from London Waterloo.. Thanks. (Y)0 -

use this for the liverpool to London section http://www.farefinder.virgintrains.co.uk/
I d only use them for the journey to southampton though use the megatrain one for the fare back up"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

They're quite expensive surprisingly.
I generally need to be at London Waterloo for 10:39am if I am to take advantage of megatrain. :O0 -

The £15 return single is surprisingly via London.
Off the top of my head the return route was;
Southampton --> London Waterloo
Waterloo Underground --> Euston
Euston --> Liverpool
Liverpool --> Ainsdale.0 -

Thats a bonus price buy it now.. though i struggle to see it if you need to be in london so early. Yeh i checked the virgin site after i posted and all had gone.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

??? All the sites should sell tickets at the same price so it doesn't matter. Just avoid ones that charge a fee/postage.
Some are easier to use than others though0
