what i am trying to do in short term to get as much paid of as possible is attempt to get back my last 6 years worth of charges from my lloyds and natwest account .
If i succeed in that it will be approx £6k which should help get rid of some of the backlog, but obviously, theres no gaurantee i will win and get my charges back
Oh - also doing the £1024 challenge lol which will help towards the above debts0 -
Good luck. It's a long slog but lots of us are making headway and it feels fantastic when those debts do start going down.
Can you get rid of the mobile and Sky? That would free up more money for you.
Good luck with the £1024 challenge- I'm a week ahead of you and it's fun.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24
currently: £13,353.25DFW Nerd 178Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Mobile im unfortunatly tied to via contract but as soon as it ends ill get rid .
Sky - Umming and arring about - i KNOW the sensible thing is to cut it down basic package or even free view, but my unsensible side is saying its the nearest thing to "entertainment" we have - we dont go to the pub, cinema, footy on a saturday etc (unless its kids for a quid at the cityground and ive had a good week on ebay lol) so its the only luxury we really pay for.
Saying that, I am looking into getting riod of the channels we dont watch and just keeping the sports and the kids channels which should cut it down a bit0 -
OH and ive missed a bill out

the good old Working families tax credit over payment of a bout £1800 - well i say £1800 but we have been given 3 different figures to pay back so far Grrrrrrrrrr. and aprt from the kindly allowing us to pay it all back in one sum if we wished to there has been no further contact and no hassling from them ( yet)0 -
i would def say sky should go, but i guess thats coz i dont watch tv.....i know if its the only thing you enjoy it must be hard........if you phone up and say you want to leave they ususally do some kind of deal.....worth a try, esp if you have been with them a few years they are bound to offer you a good deal,
i would say the council tax has to be priority as they will take you to court, also the provident loan, they charge the earth for interest so the sooner gone the better........good luck0 -
            Cheers Anime

SHall try working something out with Sky tommorrow i think
Provident is expensive but from what i can gather irs X amount + interest which is divided into 52 weekly payments ( its the door step account type thing) So i cant pay less interest by paying it off quicker if that makes sense . Just have to keep on plugging away at it and it should be over in the next 4 months i think0 -
yep def try with sky, you will def be able to get some money off hope half price if you get lucky,
i know someone who works for provident and the interest that is paid back should be illegal!!! but i know how it is when you desperatly need the money. Glad it will be paid of soon (just dont let them convince you that you need another loan!)
good luck :-)0 -
            Hi Waveydave
I'm a newbie myself so probably can't help much, but there doesn't seem to any food budget on your SOA. Wot do you do when ebay income doesn't cover it.?
Aimeee - hope you don't mind me asking, but how come your DFD is so far away on £7875 debt?? Will it really take you 12/13 years to pay that amount back? We owe about £15k and are looking at DFD of 2011. Sorry, if being nosey!0 -
You could look for a tempoary job over xmas to bring some extra money in - lots of supermarkets etc. currently recruiting and they'll always be looking for people to do overtime.0

Just a quick thought (it's 6.40am and I'm off to work, sorry) - but your mortgage is massive! Is there ANY possibility of selling and moving to something a bit smaller? Would you release any equity by doing so?
Also, you absolutely HAVE to get your council tax sorted out. Look on https://www.entitledto.co.uk to see if you could get any housing/council tax benefit while you're out of work.
And another quick thought - as you're looking for work, can you not get contributions-based JSA? It's only £56 a week, but would give you an extra £200 a month to throw at debt.
Ring Sky - tell them you can't afford it anymore and need to downgrade to the basic package. They'll probably give you a better deal, such as £20 off for 3 months, in which case take the deal but ring back in 3 months again to cancel.
Look on https://www.uswitch.co.uk to find a cheaper phone provider. You could go with someone like Talk Talk for the landline rental as it's about £9.50 a month. You might even get free broadband from them.
When you've done all that, speak to someone like CCCS or Payplan to sort out your debts. You can also write to the WFTC and appeal against the overpayment. We did this a few years ago when they reckoned to have overpaid us by £2500 and they cancelled the overpayment as it was their fault. Worth a go.
Good luck, and welcome to MSE by the way! You've come to the right place!BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0
