Porting phone number Orange-Orange

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have an Orange contract (which is now out of contract). I want to move my current mobile number to my new contract. The new contract is with Orange, but through e2save. I have been told it is NOT possible to move a number from an existing contract to a new one - keeping the number is only possible through upgrade. I chose not to upgrade as they didn't offer me a good enough deal.

Now, I was told by e2save that it is possible to port the original mobile number to a PAYG sim, and then port it back to the New Contract. I have also read elsewhere that this is possible.

Spoke to Orange and they 'no longer provide this service'.

I have an old Vodafone PAYG sim, so I called them to see if I can port to the Voda PAYG sim, and then port to New Orange contract. They tell me this is possible, but transfer will take 2 days each way, and that I will have to wait 30 days to get a PAC code from Vodafone.

Does anyone know if there is a quicker way of doing this?? Or if Orange was mistaken when they told me they can no longer do a Orange contract->Orange PAYG->New Orange contract transfer??

Thanks in advance.

  • Orange I'd think are correct on the straight transfer, thought the could do a contract-PAYG-contract but I suspect you can only do it of you upgrade from PAYG through them.

In the end grab any PAYG sim wait a week after transfer and then PAC on.
If they ask just say you went PAYG whilst waiting for a new contract to kick in.

You cannot (same net to same net) go from contract to new contract with same number. Easiest way is to go onto orange payg then your allowed take it to contract ONLY at point of connection, not after its connected!

I had the same problem with tmobile. One thing you could do it port it over to tmobile payg then inform them of signal problems then port from tmobile payg to your new contract at anytime.

I think O2 are the only provider to allow contract to contract migration.
However, e2save should have processed this as an upgrade to your Orange account. The reason they don't is that they get more money signing you up as a new customer.
  • Hi - I believe the only way you could do that is to take out a PAYG sim card and have your number transferred onto that number - then, once the number is registered on the other network, you can request to take it back to Orange - check with the network provider first though.

Remember, when you leave a mobile phone contract, you need to give 30 days notice - when you request to cancel through a PAC code, you have 30 days to use it - if you do not use it within that time, the code expires and the disconnection request is cancelled - just a word of warning - hope it all goes well for you.

    Cheers,

    Andy.

Beware of porting to Vodafone. They normally only let you port your number when you first register a new sim. Your old one may not be able to take the ported number.

    But why not try this.

Go to CPW shop. They have 5 PAYG phones under £5, Buy the phone on T-Mobile/O2. That will cost you under £15. They are all unlocked to any network.

Port your number to the PAYG sim.

After it is ported, wait a couple of days and port it back. In the meantime, use up the £10 PAYG minutes before you port them out. Even if they expire, you can still receive calls on the number till it is ported.

The advantage of that is that you would have an unlocked mobile phone that would run on any network as a spare and you would not have any period when your old number could not be contacted.
  • I recently had the same trouble with orange to orange porting.

I purchased a virgin media pre-pay sim card for 99p, ported my number to that (took 3 days max) then called them the following morning for a pak code (which they gave me over the phone, saying i've changed my mind and got another contract) then phoned orange and ported my number back to the new contract.

It is frowned upon with the networks, but it worked for me.
    Good luck.

*Edit, you don't need to top up the virgin media sim card either. So it's free all round!

I would certainly second hunkyidol. That’s what we're doing now. We used a new O2 free sim as a mule sim and in this way we can port orange number to orange again. (one thing to look out for is O2 would want you to top up £10 and get the sim activated before you can do that. However, it‘s possible to escape this.)

I am also going to port my three number back to three again lol!

That's certainly cheaper, but if you have an Orange phone, it won't take the Virgin sim, so unless you have a spare unlocked phone, you will be out of action for the day they transferred to Virgin, the next morning you rang them and however long Virgin took to pass your number back to Orange.

Wouldn't like to be out of contact for 5 days with my mobile.

My orange phone took the Virgin Sim. I was very suprised. Made it much easier for me all round.

I did this about 6 months ago Orange to Orange using a 02 sim they never asked me to top up ! All they wanted me to do was register the sim !
