Hastings Direct Car Insurance! Strange letter!

Ok, quick outline.

Bought car, insured it with Hastings (10 month accelerator, standard stuff).

Renewal time came around, like good people we shopped around, managed to find a MUCH cheaper deal with Green insurance.

Rang Hastings to say we didn't want to renew, no problems there. We then, about a month later, received a check for £62.55 as a refund, with covering letter etc (this was june 5th 2010).

Now, today, 3rd Nov, i received a letter from Hastings claiming that I owe THEM £62.55 because I cancelled the policy!

The letter was the standard threats of debt collectors/court/credit rating damage.

This policy was NOT cancelled, it was simply not renewed!

Going to ring them tomorrow for a polite "chat"

Anyone had anything similar? Any ideas?

Hastings are a mess and doing all sorts of silly things at the moment, according to various posts online.

Must be a computer hiccup. It has obviously decided to issue a cheque and now they want the money back. This is computer generated and not by a human.

Just give them a call.
