    In many cases, given the propensity of clamping firms to ignore CCJs, and the difficulty in holding the contractor (if any!) responsible,, I really don't think there is any realistic alternative to the use of "self-help".

    If threatened with a tow truck and you sit in your vehicle, they can't legally tow you (which gives a "guardian angel" a chance to use an angle-grinder to carry out certain actions listed in the paragraph below)

    If you do cut an unlawfully applied clamp off, it's best to be highly discreet about it...

    it may be worth applying to a court for an injunction ordering that the vehicle be released.

    Once you've paid, it's incredibly difficult at best to get any money back...
