I can totally understand why you'd want to "play it safe" and pay a professional to do the job.

Most HDDs I've seen fail do so gradually - getting worse over time. In this instance you can often recover some data with free/cheap recovery utilities.

If this is all that was done, then you certainly "overpaid", but if the drive was damaged was more serious then £470 sounds like a pretty good price.

Multiple profiles now too. I'm not embarrassing myself there.

Now you have proven that you have multiple profiles, it just seems like spam ;)

I bow down to your self confessed awesomeness.

By the way, if you want to post on behalf of a company, at least follow the rules.
  • Oh dear robt....I can assure you I am a real, breathing, mother of 2 who sent her HDD away for recovery!

I haven't got the time, nor the inclination to perform acts of spam on MSE!! Have you seen my ironing pile??!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Why is everyone in the world these days so synical??!!

Oh and ps.....a couple of profiles to me says that Duncan set up a profile in his own name and posted once....then another in his company name representing Retrodata and posted once.....this to me is the clearly work of someone unaccustomed to forums and forum etiquite....hardly the work of an experienced spammer now is it??!! Just someone's 'right to reply'??!!

Oh calm down. It wasn't me that suggested it was spam anyway, I just played on it. With a ;) Not entirely serious.

When you have calmed down, I suggest a strict backup regime ;)
  • Ok...no harm done! Dummy back in the pram!! Just don't like to think the company who helped me is getting a hard time on here because of my thread! Just thought I would share my positive story with fellow MSE users in the hope that it might help someone who was as silly as me!!

Yip....I know....back up back up....think we now have 2 back-up thingymajigs!! Will never get in the same predicament again!
