Sellers refusing to arrange courier, but buyer can?

For the second time in a week I've asked a seller if they would be willing to send an item by courier, and they have said that they wouldn't, but would be happy for me to arrange it... what's all that about then? How can I arrange it... I don't know when they're going to be available for collection etc.

Normal practice: if a seller doesn't want to be in specifically or argue the toss over who pays what for charges they don't need to.

You should sort out a courier whio can collect from A and deliver to B and then if you agree to the couriers charges contact the seller to find a mutually acceptable time for the collection to take place.

I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and never use couriers, I am not in during the day and seldom there during the weekends either, it's just too much hassle, much easier to post it from work or pop into the post office.

I wouldnt ever use a seller that asked me to arrange a courier. Completely backwards way of doing things imo.

The latest one has advised me to use parcel2go because they've found them good in the past, and has now gone to find a price out for me... so seems as though they're going to do everything apart from book it and pay for it. I don't mind paying, it just seems strange that they want me to do the booking.

Maybe they don't want to pay paypal fees on that money ? Doesn't really make sense though! Must just be lazy like me.

Might just be to discourage couriers altogether. Was it a pick up only type of item?

There's been a few times when I've asked a seller for a courier quote on a 'collection only' item - I always send them a polite / grovelling / humorous message when I ask, and always end with 'I'll fully understand if you say no' and 'thanks for your time'.

Only once has a seller refused - and their item sold for a lot less than I was willing to pay had they be willing to post it.

I suppose it's how bothered you are about the price you get for something. Sending via courier also involves parcelling up, which can be expensive in some cases, asking a buyer to pay for that can result in some 'interesting' replies. Waiting in for a courier service (some can be very unreliable), can be impossible if you work full time too. But Norma D has the right apporach, ask nicely and you never know!
