Well I am retired but OH is still working.. we spend around £50/60 a week... if there is a deal on something we'll buy extra as you do... I do a lot of cooking from scratch now and try not to buy snacky things but have a bake up on Saturday of cakes , scones , pies and buns.. they last us all week..

Ohhh, even the aroma is coming out of the posting!! Yummy

I'm doing my best to stay away from all supermarkets for at least the month of January and trying to eat my way through my existing food stores.I normally manage of around £30.00 p.w. for food shopping but often I can go for a week on far less with careful budgetting and planning.

Breakfast is either cereal/or porridge or two slices of toast and a cup of tea.
Lunch is usually a sandwich and a yoghurt or piece of fruit.afternoon cuppa around 3.30. with a biscuit
Dinner in the evening is normally 2 courses.either soup and dinner, or dinner and pudding or cheese and crackers.
I suppose at least a quarter of my £30.00 is spent on fresh fruit and veg another quarter on meat/fish and the rest on sundries, butter cheese, milk bread ect.I try to shop maybe only once a week or at least only buy whats on my list that I have by the kettle in the kitchen It tells me of things that have run out of that need replacing .Before Christmas I did a week on a £1.00 a day which was possible as I had quite a bit in store anyway and I wanted to see if it was possible to manage.Yes it is, but I don't think I could do it for long as I would miss the F&V too much I can live without meat that wouldn't bother me but fresh F&V is very important for ones health I think.I tend to shop only in tesco's for certain things .I prefer my local butchers for meat and eggs and my fishmonger is local to where I live or I can drive to Whitstable and buy it so fresh it was caught that morning.Wilkinsons are good for cleaning stuff and toilet rolls Iceland I can buy 4 pints of milk for £1.10 which last me a week.I suppose I am lucky in that I live in a small area which is really a large village ,but it has a small precinct with enough shops for my needs I never go to Chatham to shop, far too scruffy in the town centre and I never feel safe there, but sometimes travel to Maidstone for clothes ect
Best way I have to save my pennies is to only buy whats really needed and ignore the 'special offers.Great if you are a family but as I am on my own I really don't need a 6 pack of baked beans cluttering up my cupboards

    I think Tescos is expensive!
Got to sing the praises of an independent 'farm shop' near me. Their non food groceries are imo comparatively pricey but their meat, fruit and veg seem to undercut most. Plus they have a scheme where they exchange spare garden produce with customers and sell it on. And they have introduced transport too. They listen to customers and have introduced a prize draw suggestion scheme. I would mention them but maybe it is not allowed.
Anyway their car park gets fuller every week and with good reason too.
