should i travel for work at 30 weeks pregnant

I want to know the reasons for concern of travelling at 30 weeks pregnancy.
I have been asked to travel to Europe(mode of travel is still negotiable) for work at 30 weeks pregnancy. I am 37 years of age and this is my first and maybe only child I am planning. I want to get an idea of the risks and concerns involved. I know you need doctors consent when you into the later stages of pregnancy. I want to show enthusiasm for my job but worry about the stress on me or my baby, is it worth it. Am justified to be hesitant in agreeing with my employer about this work request.
My husband isn’t very happy about it, both regarding the travel and the days spent away from home late into my pregnancy

thanks

I wouldn't travel. Not worth the risk. Ive 3 kids and worked up until 38 weeks pregnant and I was on my knee's (office job). I would imagine travelling abroad would be stressful and exhausting. You arent supposed to fly after 28 weeks are you?

It is risky - and the employer would have to do a risk assessment for your travel. They would have to provide you with the insurance as well (well, I wouldn't travel anywhere if they didn't!), and I am not sure how would the insurance company react to you being 30 weeks and travelling.

How long would the trip be for? Would you travel alone? What about luggage - if you are on your own, would you be comfortable handling your luggage, especially if it is heavy.

I would if I felt fit and well, but not if I was concerned about my health in any way. Most airlines will happily carry you, but you'd need a letter from your doctor saying how many weeks you are and that you are fit to travel - they don't want you popping out babies mid flight!

I am 28 weeks at the moment, and I'd happily fly within Europe, but I do have an easy time with pregnancy.
  • I personally would not want to risk the health of myself or baby if was in your position.

have work done a health and safety risk assessment on you?

I think the main risk would be going into labour early and then obviously at 30 weeks there would be very great risks of things going wrong and ofcourse you would be without your OH. I wouldn't risk it either.

  • I worked until 2 weeks before giving birth and travelled by walking, tube and train into London in rush hour every day. I would possibly go if I felt well in myself but I wouldn't be over the moon with going abroad away from my husband - particularly if he wasn't keen on me going in the first place.

In your situation I would probably decline to go though, based on the fact that it's your first child (so you dont know what to expect) and given your age. Please dont take offence at the bit about your age, but I was only 21 when I had my daughter and I expect the older you get, the more tired you get if that makes sense!

I was your age when I had my (first and only) son and I remember sitting crying on the train late in my pregnancy because there were disruptions and they kept changing the platforms and every time I'd shuffled my huge bulk there the train had left :D

No way would I consider air travel.

Maybe tell them you'll do it if -

    a) you feel well enough

    b) your doctor agrees

    and

    c) You can fly Business Class ;)

I would talk to your doctor, he may say it isn't a good idea anyway, then problem solved, you can tell your employers, that your doctor says it isnt a good idea at your age.
I think he will say that btw.

Is Eurostar an option? And could your husband go with you? And I would definitely ask your doctor's opinion.
