Carphone Warehouse (O2) early upgrade
Options
Hi,
I took out a contract deal with O2 in January this year through the carphone warehouse. It is a 24 month contract so obviously ends in January 2012.
I took a free gift making my basic tariff £25 per month - rather than getting a new phone. I should point out that I still got a phone as part of the deal but it was just a very basic one.
However, my phone that I am using (Nokia N95 8GB) is starting to freeze up a lot and I was wondering of the possibility of upgrading (very) early and maybe getting a blackberry. I would obviously be willing to pay a surcharge on top of my current tariff.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks.

If there's a fault with the phone, you should give them a chance to diagnose and fix it.
If you just want out of your contract, normally you will need to pay the remainder of the line rental to end of the minimum agreed contract.0 -
I have had my phone for abour 2 years or so and it was one I got under a previous contract so I can't get it looked at cheaply. It is useable but irritating at times.
I don't wish to cancel my current contract, merely get an upgraded handset - I am happy with every other aspect of it.0 -
Try doing a master reset (back everything up first) and or updating the firmware on the phone. My old N95 used to get very clogged up every so often.0

If you can't get your N95 working, and you want a new handset, you can't just upgrade so early in the contract without paying £25 x the 14 or so months left.
You took a 'free' gift which I expect was worth several hundred pounds. The money for this is paid by an increase in your line rental, so it's not economical for them to give you another handset worth several hundred pounds so soon.
You could either buy a cheap PAYG handset and put the SIM in that or pay off the remainder of the minimum term0 -
So there is no way of further upping my tariff to include the cost of a new handset, which I would be happy to pay?0

You could call them and ask, but I would find it unlikely. If it is a BB you're after, they generally have different tariffs so you would probably need to take out a new contract.0 -
They'll probably tell you you've to pay the full handset price, so you may as well just buy it elsewhere.0
