Just so you now a diesel lump on a Honda CRV is probably about £5000 or £6000, best to start saving as it is all on you.

A short engine will probably be around £5500-£7500 - that's how much one cost for my diesel Nissan X-Trail in July. It was out of warranty, but I managed to get Nissan to pay.
My X-Trail hydrolocked due to failure of an injector nozzle. £100 component destroyed the engine.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Sorry withabix your post didn't make sense, yousay an engine will be £1500-2000 fitted, then say a short engine will be £5500-7500.
The OP is unfortunately at fault, and Honda aren't going to do him any kind of deal, they will want a brand new factory engine to be fitted, as will the owner of the CRV, the lease company.
Honda would probably charge £1000 for a clutch on a 2009 CRV diesel, let alone a new engine.
They won't be fitting a short engine either, they will fit a brand new engine, probably with a new injection system as the current one has been run on sump oil and could have sustained damage.
We had a Merc Sprinter at work that was filled with petrol by mistake, it was three weeks old, the person knew they did it but drove it anyway as they thought they could get away with it, result, one new Merc 2.7 engine and new injection components, a bill for £9000 and a P45.0 -
It depends what is causing the smoke it can be caused by simpler things, it dosn't automatically mean engine failure.
Blue smoke does. And its usually caused by excessive wear due to poor lubrication. Oil deteriorates and if you can't afford to service a car, a simple £20 oil and filter change should still be on the must do list.0 -
A bit different in the OP's case hammeyman, he over filled it and it revved it's nuts off, I reckon, valves, turbo. Though the oil pressure would have been well over design limits aswell.0

There are lots of possibilities when you overfill an engine, on new fangled stuff you might have knackered the injectors, bottom end, valve stem oil seals or even the turbo seals, or more likely all of the above, but if it runs rough and smokes I wouldn't be surprised if it has a few bent valves.......
I can see the dieseling possibility with an over filled sump and over speeding might affect the crank/con rods but I’m struggling to see any mechanism by which an over filled sump could affect any of the rest.
How can excess oil affect injectors, valve or turbo seals or bend valves?
Actually, I’d be falling down amazed if a diesel with bent valves would even start.

I know about the bent valves. I broke a belt on my old ZX 1.9 non turbo and belt most of the valves. I was skint at the time so changed the belt as practice as I'd never done it before so thought I'd make the most of a bad situation! The !!!!!! ran and ran. Couldn't kill it! It sounded awful but I think it knew I was allowed to get a nice car when it died so wouldn't give up!0 -
Hey maximillion, you need to stop beating yourself over your mistake. What's done is done and nothing is going to change that.
We all make errors, big and small, and hopefully learn from them, and move on, although admittedly this one would point towards being rather expensive.
You need to stop dwelling on the error, and the remorse, have a drink or two (don't take the car) and prepare an achievable plan of action.
You mind also want to change your user name to minimillion when you receive the dealer's report (just kidding).

I agree with you on this, I would have thought it would have forced oil up the bore, and damaged the rings first.
If it's so full it's up the bores, as the piston comes down it'll hit the oil, so can damage the piston, con-rods, or crank, or even the bore.
It's possible the over revving has damaged the turbo by overspinning it, but I wouldn't have thought so. Valves can be damaged by the over revving, if they float, then if they're not closed the piston can hit the valve.
I'd take it in and plead ignorance too.0 -
The fact a diesel can run on oil is proof enough that they are the work of the evil, dark forces. It's the equivalent of drinking one's own blood, yes diesels are the vehicular stand-in for vampires...
On a side note (and I realise everyone's personal circumstances are different and ever-changing) but I would never, never lease a new car if I couldn't afford to even service it. Honda CRVs can be picked up for as little as £1000 and though one would lose the warranty on a used car, not servicing a new car would render it equally unprotected...
I really think I would have to be at least a millionaire to ever go for a new car (bought or leased), used cars are such silly value these days!0 -
