The only way I'm actually managing to get the internet now is cos there's a yellow lead connecting my laptop to the little sky router box.
well I'm not au fait with Sky's setup but essentially you should have something like:
(1) cable into back of the router, meaning your internet traffic HAS to go via the router
(2) an ethernet cable from your router into your main pc's network card
On your main pc, what happens when you go into IE and type http://192.168.1.1 ?You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

I only have my laptop, no main PC, but when I typed that in, it took me to a packard bell page.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

So if you disconnect the cable, can you then see your own network when you click on the wireless icon? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
If I was to disconnect the cable, I think it does do that, yeah. Wireless icon just says disconnected.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I wouldn't want to be a netgear user right about now either, their home page currently says "Service Unavailable" :rotfl:
How helpful

As previously mentioned, the Sky broadband router box is a Netgear DG834GT with Sky's firmware.
The address of the router config is http://192.168.0.1 - username admin password sky. Go into the Wireless Settings page and make sure Enable Wireless Access Point and Allow Broadcast of Name are both ticked. Set Security to Disable for now. We can make it secure once the basic wireless connectivity is working.
We also need to find out whether the wireless is enabled on the laptop. To do this, click Start - Run - type cmd and click OK. In the new window that's just opened type:
ipconfig/all > temp.txt
notepad temp.txt
Copy and paste everything from Notepad into this thread.0 -

OK what I am saying is that you need to connect either using the Ethernet cable or disconnect the Ethernet cable and then try to establish a wireless connection. If you do this you should be prompted for the WPA key, and when entered it should allow you to connect. The post above mentioned trying to connect to http://192.168.1.1 but I believe that it should be 192.168.0.1 to access the routers config screens. There is a Skyuser forum with lots of useful posts on here which may be of use. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
