I am completely clueless when it comes to computers, but today I bought a wireless enabled computer. After hours of trying to connect to the net, we can only do it when there is a cord connected, still not sure what we done. We don't seem to be able to connect wireless. Are there any geniuses that can help?
It's sky broadband if that helps.

theres nothing wrong with your system,. being the main pc it is connected direct,.
you are not using the wireless card in ur main pc due to the above^
now if u had a 2nd pc (upstairs) lets just say its the same model as ur main pc and u had a wireless router conntected to the main pc,. then the 2nd pc would just connect with its wireless card,.0 -
Right, okay, so what do I need to do? Ring Sky or ring Packard Bell (the make of the computer I bought) or is there something else I can do myself (i.e. press certain buttons the laptop)?

There is an expert on another thread who knows all about this and I have asked them to help you. They should be along soon.0

Check that the wireless signal is being broadcast by the router. There should be a light to show if it is on.
When you click on the wireless icon in your system tray, can you see your wireless network i.e. the SSID of your router?
Check that your new wifi enabled computer has it's wifi switched on. This varies from make to make, it may be a switch with a light to signify that it is on. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Yeah, a little sky router box thingie came from Sky. But it just says it can't connect wireless. Not quite sure what to do. All the right lights seem to be on.
The only way I'm actually managing to get the internet now is cos there's a yellow lead connecting my laptop to the little sky router box.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

there should be some information on the CD that came with the sky broadband
you need to put some information from the SKy router into the Laptop, when you try to connect the laptop should ask for this infornation, namely a wep or Wpa keyEx forum ambassador

Oh vell, never mind. Maybe when I'm at work tomorrow, I'll be a bit more awake and can figure it out.
But if I didn't have a router, how would I get on the Internet?
When my brother used to come round with his laptop, there used to be a way to connect wireless even though we didn't have an internet account, i.e. seeing if there were any unsecured users around. But even though we have got a proper account, this method doesn't seem to work.
Sorry if I'm not making much sense.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
