don't forget Quidco! You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

Don't touch the like sof Dell for TV's...they are !!!!!!!
if you are going to spend that sort of money on an HD Ready plasma then go for a decent brand. The Philips just mentioned is good or you might want to look at the Hitachi 9700. One thing to remember is to ask yourself whether you actually want a TV or just a panel (i.e. no tuner). If you have Sky/Freeview and also a sound system then a panel might be what you are after. A good buy would be the Panasonic range. Make sure it has an HDMI input (some "HD Ready" TV's don't!) and whatever you do DO NOT rely on a Comet/Currys demo as these places haev absolutely no idea about TV's...whatever they might tell you. Go to a good independant retailer and get a demo first. For your info. I have a Hitachi and am VERY pleased with it.
before you make a decision go to http://www.avforums.com and ask this question on the Plasma TV Forum as their are some very knowledgeable people on there including retailers and real AV heads! It'll be worth it!0 -
does anyone have experience of projectors?
picked up a leaflet from comet but apart from the prices it does not tell you much else.
also after being in there i saw 37"lcd...may change my mind and go for that size after seeing them in the flesh again. sorry chuckles1066fatblokexl:EasterBun:0 -
I have heard bad storys about plasma. things like they have to be re-gassed every 1 - 2 years. why not get an LCD one.Filiss0

The very early plasmas did have problems but the current models have a life expectancy in the region of 3 years if you have it turned on 24/7 (which I assume the OP doesnt intend to do)
Dont want to restart the plasma -v- LCD but basically both of them have their strengths and weaknesses. Plasma generally has a slightly better picture but do suffer from screen burn which is a particular problem if you play games consoles
If your after a projector I would certainly go to somewhere like Severnoaks or another "proper" AV shop rather than Comet (but then I would never go to Currys or Comet unless someone was paying me to). Projectors are great for watching films/ sports on but really need to be watched in a darkened room and personally wouldnt want to watch Eastenders or such on a 6' screen with everyone being larger than life (literally). Personally I think it is nice (though expensive) to have a 37-42" flat screen with a projector screen that drops down infront for watching movies.
Back to your original question Panasonic TH42PX60WALL would be my choice at your price point which can be got for a little under £1200.... the 600 really doesnt add that much ovre the 60 other than some silly display options and slightly better sound (though I have a surround sound setup so never have the sound on on my TVAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
